Thoughts pls 964 turbo

Top money for a 3.3.
Looking at the mileage you may think "Fair enough" but even at a glance the wheels are corroded, discs look old and most worrying is that gearknob! That is some serious wear for 40 odd thousand miles. My car has done 100k and apart from a bit of grime and shininess my gear knob is fine.
Also, as I always say with low mileage cars with a few owners (in this case 5), could it really have been that lucky to have fallen into the hands of 5 people, all of whom hardly use it. It's 21years old, so that's 2k a year, by 5 owners. Hmm.
I don't like to knock someone's car though and all could be proved genuine by the history file, although there's always a chance some unscrupulous owner has unplugged the mileometer between services, mots, etc.

Yup that gear knob did make me think and u right easy to have been clocked. Maybe better to go for a higher mileage example at less money. The Phil Raby one looks a bit tatty to me thou (no of fence Phil) but maybe that's the more genuine car. I basically want something I can run alongside my gt3 as an 'occasional' car that is rare enough that it wont depreciate. I'm not after a profit just close to zero net cost. The two 3.2 supersports ive looked at have gone v quickly. I dunno build numbers of 3.3 turbos but it can't be that many???
It's still worth a look. I would not pre judge the car by the gear knob. Light grey leather does not wear well. A good mate had a metallic black 3.3 turbo with linen leather. His hands are quite acidic. It stripped the die out of the gear knob and a patch of leather on the passenger seat were he used to rest his hand. His was also a low mileage car as well but that was crikey ten years ago.
I was up at Gmund for a look round a couple of weeks ago and saw the car in question. I asked about the history and was told that the combination of invoices, MOT's and service stamps check out.
As a friend in the trade used to say "it's still in it's working clothes"
I'm sure they are going to change the wheels for the correct type and attend to various other items before it's fully ready for sale.
I was interested in a 3.2 supersport that they had but hesitated because it looked similar to the 964 turbo in condition when it came in. They have now fully prepared it and it looks absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately it's been sold and is going to Australia !
If you are interested in the turbo I would suggest you talk through it and find out what they are prepared to do for the price.
I've never bought a car from them, but they've always been very helpful and patient when I've called in.

Over priced.
Doesn't do it for me albeit not a fan of the colour either.
Very expensive cars to maintain so make sure you have a PPI.
Think at that money will be a round for a bit.
Personally if its a weekend toy, opt for a more iconic 930.
Ok tks thou they seem equally expensiveDoesn't do it for me albeit not a fan of the colour either.

The non 'mobile' link. http://pistonheads.com/sales/3529611.htm
Regarding the gearknob.. we have had this conversation already when I bought my car.. "there's no way my car has covered so few miles!" etc etc. I have gone on to proove the mileage is correct!
I have sinse gone on to the strip the colour from my hanbrake by resting my hand on it for the last 1500 miles only! I think that the light grey leather is actually a water colour!
The OP car is expensive though, but I do believe Nigel's (golfer99) 964 turbo is coming up for sale?

I just want to clarify, I'm not for one minute saying avoid the car due to the gear knob, it's just a one of those tell tale signs I'd be taking notice of. I've not seen one that bad before, especially on that sort of mileage, but that's just my experience.
Fair enough if they haven't prepped the car yet but why advertise it for big money looking shabby.

also send a PM to "stup" he has a 3.3t and is selling very soon
OP, Stuarts (stup) will be good. Incase you don't know who he is, he runs SP Autobahn (Porsche specialist up in Scotland)and knows 964Ts/930s very well. He is a guru when it comes to fuelling and does some very clever things with these cars.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
