Sorry folks, PH search is down at present…

Looking at 2008/2009 LCI version of the 535d - could anyone give me an idea of the real world mpg you are getting? I suspect it isn't quite as high as the official figures would have us believe, although I guess it will be higher than my '07 X5 4.8 biggrin

My pre LCI gives me 29 - ish average.

Thats with an 11 mile commute and 3rd lane motorway driving.

Id say a LCI would give you 32mpg.

Give it a long haul motorway drive and 70mph and it will do 44mpg.

I recently completed a ski trip to France (1850miles) and managed 40.2mpg; thats high speed and fully loaded. My first trip abroad in this car last easter gave 37.7 mpg. Typical mpg for me A and B roads and some Mway is 36mpg. It hates the cold and town driving.

It's a truly great mile muncher. Mine is and Lci 535D

hope this helps.

Over 120,000 miles of driving; 35.7mpg. That's on a real mixed bag of driving conditions from motorway to school run.

535d M Sport Touring and I'm getting around 35mpg. Can't believe the figures are so good. I even had around 38mpg one time when I was on a motorway run and took it steady.

The car I had before was a Volvo V70 D5 and I'd barely get to 30mpg.

Guys saying whether your cars are pre or post-LCI would probably help as they improved noticeably if what I've read is to be believed.

My pre-LCI with a 20/80% motorway split averaged 28mpg over about 15k miles.

Tangent but your Volvo had something wrong with it then !! I have had various d5s and never got below 38 even wringing their necks!!

I keep an eye on the 535, seem to be a few ferrying really good value now, post lci is a nicer place to be in some ways though!

A friend gets around 30mpg driving around central London, and the odd trip to the home counties.

I get 17mpg doing similar trips in my e46 M3.

Are any of the figures from brim to brim calculations, or are they just from OBC readings?
My cars' OBCs have been significantly out from calculated mpg - by as much as 12%.

My X3 35D is doing 30-31 MPG at 150-160 kph cruising but a shocking 18-20 mpg in city traffic. The 535D would better both, as it is lighter (X3 is 1950 kg) and more aerodynamic.

Many thanks for the replies folks… Had a test drive in a 2008 535d today, mix of urban, b-road and motorway gave a figure of about 33 mpg - about double what I get in my X5 wink

Not a 535d but a 330d v 530d ... driving loads clearly shows the newer they are the better the mpg ... obvious maybe but it is very true !! I have driven early 530d's that managed 23mpg in town but own a 330d LCI that does 35mpg around the same route ! The newer the 535d the difference may be surprising ..

Ive tried to improve my bad cold weather hilly short journey mpg in the 530d touring 2005 auto. Whacking it on cruise at the speed limit over 10 or so miles today got it up from 22 to 28 mpg. The terrible former figure is probably down to my heavier than needed right foot, a lot of effort tho :-)
