Ipod touch 4.2 BBC iPlayer

Sorry if this has been covered before.

I think the BBC have stopped me using iPlayer because I have a gen 2 iOS 4.2.1 Ipod touch. I have used iPlayer every day for the last 3 years, Thursday it stopped working. I cannot use the new iPlayer app as it does not support my 4.2.1 iOS.

I can understand Apple doing things like this, why the BBC though?

Is there anyway I can look through the last weeks Radio 4 programs and listen to them in the middle of the night?

Seems strange, but I don't have an iOS 4.2 device to test on.

You can always just use the iplayer website through safari.

It doesn't work for me either. Clicking to play the programme just puts the page back to the top and nothing else. The iplayer app won't install either because it says it needs OS 4.3.

I think Apple have persuaded the BBC to join in the continuous upgrade charade, why the BBC would agree I dont understand.

Sorry, mis-read your post - thought it was the app that stopped.

Have you tried using Opera to access it? (that should prevent the BBC from figuring out that your on an iOS device!)

My gen 2 Ipod has worked with web based BBC iPlayer for 3 years.

BBC release an app that only works with Ipods with iOS 4.3 and up i.e. not gen 2 with 4.2.1 iOS

a month later web based BBC iPlayer for Gen 2 Ipods stops working.

Choice for gen 2 owners - new device or stop using iPlayer on existing device.

Whats in it for the BBC?

I am not upset by you typing "que", I don't understand what you are saying, are you a stupid waiter?

I had something that worked, now it doesn't, I feel like I am being forced to spend money on a new device to get the functionality I had 3 years ago. Whats wrong with that?

I was questioning this conspiracy you seem to think is going on.

Fair enough.

My only point is why would the BBC stop access to iPlayer for owners of older Apple equipment when it doesn't affect the functionality. If using iPlayer on 4.3 and above devices was a completely different experience I could understand, as it is they have just forced owners of old (2 years +) hardware to either stop using Iplayer or buy a new device.

You'd have to ask the BBC. It depends if the newer app makes use of resources that the older one do not have.

BTW, there was no iOS4.3. After 4.2.1 it went to iOS5. That was a major release, so it would make more sense that it includes some technologies that the BBC wanted to use in their app, but which then would stop it working on previous versions of the OS.

This has appeared on BBC website, lets hope they mend it soon.
