GEAR LEVER, RUBBER GAITER
Discussion
Most of the strip down pictures I have seen show the same problem as mine, the rubber gaiter fastened to the transmission tunnel has split. Mine is in a right mess! If this is split it lets fumes and excessive noise into the car, even with a decent outer fabric gearlever surround. The part is Ford part 6112048, Ford Sierra or P100. Discontinued by Ford some time ago and, to my surprise, I haven't been able to locate one through the normal channels I use.
a) does anybody know where I could buy one from
b) if not, has anybody seen an alternative that would fit, which would save me a lot of checking cars at the breakers!

Anyone tried one of these?
That looks handy
Only thing I'd suggest is that before you secure it down with too many screws, pop-rivets or whatever make sure you can get all your gears ok. Had to get the one I used "just right" or it sort of bunched up and made fifth very difficult.

I had one of those universal ones in my hand in a shop, and that was my concern - either 5th, or especially reverse (in mine) leave very little space between the gearlever stem and the edge of the console, so any bunching of the rubber would be hopeless.

Got one! First of all, I can confirm that the Ford part number 6112048 is correct, it was used on the P100 and apparently on some early Sierra's, although I have yet to see one with it on.
Can some one who knows how to do it get this info added to the Alternative Part List?
I managed to get one from Newford Parts (website www.newfordparts.co.uk) see separate posting. Newford think they have others.

Note that it fits with short end forward (on my pic the right goes towards the front of the car!)
I would agree with the earlier comments that the one from CBS (who have supplied me with some other excellent stuff) is NOT very suitable. It is too bulky and gets in the way of gear changes, in addition the outer 'leather' gaiter doesn't fit over it very well.
I will keep my eye open for an alternative every time I go to a breakers but I have looked at a lot of cars so far without success.
