Also the Lotus has numbers on it that you can read from the front and the sides. Plus a drivers helmet that his own colour scheme not the sponsors as some are now and he kept the same colours throughout his F1 days not chnaging them every other race like some do now.
I remember DC saying he was offered $1million to let sponsors cover his helmet, I suppose that's why. I can always tell apart the Mclaren guys, the Ferrari guys and the Mercedes guys. I struggle a bit more with the others.
It is not necessary to make ugly cars just so they can overtake.
The rules and parameters for F1 car design need a serious overhaul history proves that it is possible to make an F1 car that is beautiful that we lust over and that is competitive in a race series where they can overtake each other. This was the way of F1 for many years. The cars over the last few years are pig ugly.

Just to add to that last post.
I never thought much to the designs and rules when they picked the nose of the floor and left a 300 - 400mm gap between the end of the nose and the ground. I see that they now argue this is a good thing to stop one car going underneath the rear of another in an accident. Oh please safety is a must but for years race cars had a sharp nose that went to the floor without ten drivers per season having their head knocked off under another car.

What is your point? It sounds like you're saying that an accident must happen before any countermeasures can be taken.I never thought much to the designs and rules when they picked the nose of the floor and left a 300 - 400mm gap between the end of the nose and the ground. I'd like to see maaahusively fat rear tyres and quite a bit smaller front tyres
It would give them far more drama

Wouldn't hurt uping the overall width of the car either
Amen to that. Current cars are Very long and relatively narrow, which makes them very unwieldy looking. Overtaking must be like passing a Volvo Estate pulling a caravan. (Relatively of course ) It would give them far more drama

Wouldn't hurt uping the overall width of the car either
