Boot struts again

Is the boot supposed to lift upwards without having to lift it on a Monaro VXR (like some posh cars) or are the struts just to help with the weight & keeping it up?

there just there to keep it up. they dont really help with opening..

Gas struts take virtually all of the tailgate weight. Tailgates are very heavy items...
Try opening the average tailgate without 'em then see if you think they aid opening it!

Monaros don't have tailgates

I took some off my old Trans-Am GTA bonnet to replace them, bloody hell that bonnet was heavy
