Waste of 20 or not?
Reading the blurb, apparently this stuff removes most if not all of the deposits in the injectors, combustion chamber, intake valves, you name it..

So, once the schmoo is floating about in your injectors, where does it go?

Personally I's stick to getting the injectors ultrsonically cleaned (they usually renew the pintle filters too) if in doubt and regular filter changing.

All that jazz

Millers Ecomax does the same job and is cheaper. It's basically V-Power in a bottle without the fuel.

More than likely complete hokum. Oil / fuel companies spend m(b)illions in testing, these companies don't.

Anyone actually used the stuff?

I first used it on my old mx-3, which would struggle to pass the MOT emissions every year, my mechanic suggested we try it (have to fill your tank and run it over 300 ish miles) and it sailed right through.

Ok, so I'll come clean.
I used the stuff on my 1991 Astra GTE 16v which has 71k on the clock.
Stupidly, I really have no before to compare against. After buying the car but before adding the BG44k I had to change the thermostat & the car was not getting up to temp as it was stuck open.
Fuel consumption seems reasonable now & the engine seems nice & punchy.
Here is the emissions result from my MOT last month (the car is a de-cat):

I'd be interested to know more before & after stories about this product.
Apparently you only have to use 1 can every 10,000 miles.

"This causes engine ping, detonation, reduced fuel economy and engine knock."

Aren't engine ping (pinking?), detonation and knock three different terms describing the same thing?

In the 1970s there was a 'revolutionary' product advertised in small ads in various magazines. It was called 'Mota-Nu' which, it was claimed, would replace lost metal on worn bearing surfaces and bores. You paid a large amount of money for a handful of metal spheres (there's a clue as to it's efficacy!) which you dropped into your petrol tank. Over a period of months the repairs would carried out silently and certainly. Some people actually believed it...

BG44K and BG244 are the only fuel additives I use, just as an initial treatment on new-to-me vehicles. On petrol engines, a before and after check through the spark plug hole shows a noticeable difference in carbon removal, and on the diesel van the engine has been substantially quieter since using it, with a far less audible click from the injectors.

I don't plan on using it more than once on each vehicle - proper servicing, decent oils and detergent packs in Shell fuel should keep the internals in clean condition from now on, and every 10k seems like overkill to my mind.

Bg244 definitely helps on common rail diesels solved my rough idle when cold after around 100 miles of being in the tank. Unsure on the petrol products performance. I'd only use it if I though something was wrong though.

My MOT tester has recommended it, said he saw good results on cars that previously failed emissions or were running badly, unlike other additives various customers have tried. He doesn't sell it (or any other additive), so wasn't trying to get me to buy anything and the car had passed easily enough.

I would need some proof of increased fuel economy to tempt me to buy though. The car runs well otherwise and at last MOT had very low emissions readings, much lower than newer cars with less mileage according to the tester.

So if you haven't tried it, it's a useless gimmick, if you have, it works really well.
Thanks confused

Was that directed at anyone in particular?.

You state that you have used it and were satisfied with it, so why would you care what anyone else's experiences or opinions were?.

I stated that I wasn't really sure what effect it had in my case, since I had a gammy thermostat before fixing that then using the stuff.
What's wrong with a consensus? It's becoming clear what people who haven't used it think. What is more telling is what people who have tried it have to say about it, especially those who have before/after anecdotal evidence.
Don't you agree?

I've used BG diesel product 244 and that was really impressive chucked so much crap out the engine it caused the DPI light to come on with which I had to do a quick motorway run to clear the crap out the particulate filter.
Changed cars and now about to buy the petrol version 44K so will report back on how that works on my 350z

I've had a thought that upsetting injectors is down to these additives. I wonder if they attack the deposits that have bean sealing the seals...

Simply put for the moderator who deemed my first reply an "advert" BG44K is hands down the best product anyone can buy anywhere period. Seafoam I have used a few times and it is only good for keeping your gas fresh if you park for awhile. Like for instance if you are a seasonal boat or cycle rider. I have used it in both by the way and it helps with that . I have had fair results with other additives but NOTHING ever showed me it was working with smoke from the adding to my system.

To the moderator who removed my last post...your an idiot. I wrote what actually happened to me. I don't distribute, sell, or own stock in the company. Just because I actually am a mechanic with a lot of experience and who builds his own engines I happen to know a lot. Appartently more than you.
