Hi all

Does anyone know what the differences are between the 118d and the 120d? I thought the 118d might have been a 1.8, but infact both are 2 litre, so is the difference just down to mapping or are there other differences ie turbo or gearbox?

More than a remap would fix then, thanks.

Yes but buy an ED car, remap it and you have 120d power with £30 RFL

Different turbos and brakes??? Are you having a laugh, different diff??? They are exactly the same car just remapped differently!! A 116d, 118d and 120d are all the same 2.0d engine with a different software producing 120bhp, 144bhp and 177bhp if talking about a 2007 57-2011 model. On the new model F20 the 120d is 184bhp.

Having changed discs and pads on a 118d and a 120d i can guarantee they are different.

Certainly on the pre facelift the injectors and turbo was different.

Pre facelift I dont disagree but the op is talking about the 2.0d models when BMW introduced Efficient Dynamics

Yes they do have a different diff ratio, hence why the 120d is better on the motorway than the 118d

No he is talking about 118d vs 120d no mention of ed models specifically in his post.

As it happens we have an ed 118d and 120d on the drive, it does look like the brakes are he same, pre ed 118d had solid rear discs not vented like the 120d's

We also have an f20 118d and oddly thats back to solid rear discs again.
