Right, on a roll from 2011, a growing group of friends and I are missing LM in favour of this. Current intentions are to stay in Mullenbach again, heading down Wednesday night/Thursday morning and returning on the Monday.

So.. Anybody else going? If so where are you staying? Any news or info that you have heard about the event regarding spectating/camping would be great seeing as our planning has been typically 'relaxed' up until now!

I may be going to the 24hrs this year, although I am not sure yet. I've been to see a couple of rounds of the VLN series in the past and really enjoyed them so the 24hrs must be something special. There were quite a few people at the circuit when I have been in the past but the 24hrs is supposed to be much busier.

After my first visit I managed to get hold of a map of the Nordschleife which was very useful as it shows all of the roads and tracks that surround the circuit. Due to the size of the track it can be a bit tricky finding the best way to get around if you want to see different sections of the track.

This is the map.

I really struggled to get a copy as it had gone out of production and I only managed to get a copy as someone from Waterstones managed to find a copy that was still at the publishers. The map is ISBN no 3897070855, it looks like there is a used copy on Amazon at the moment if someone wants it.

I'm heading over for this too on the Thursday on the 08:20 chunnel. Staying at Adenau Bridge as right next to track and free bus upto the main Grandstand area. We are heading down in red Alfa 164 cloverleaf so keep an eye open for us on the hard shoulder. Thanks for link to the map... Just bought it as should make getting around a lot easier this year !

I've done the Ring24 twice now and it's bloody brilliant in my opinion. Rammed to the seams, you'll need to walk to get around and wrap up warm as last year it was colder than the South Pole. The German locals camp almost a week before and are really creative with scaffold towers, home built grandstands etc. This is very much drink beer for a week, listen to heavy metal (you'll have no choice) and be prepared to walk - the rest is the stuff of motor racing heaven. (Porsche will win by the way).

Dave.

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been going to the 24h for the last 6 years. We usually stay in either the Breidscheid or Metzgesfeld campsites but am going for the Mullenbach site this year.

If you haven't been before, I can assure you it will be like nothing you have ever seen before in the trackside camping areas! Like the chap before said, get used to the heavy mtal and the thrash music!

I'm going to be on the continent for work when this is on but I can only really visit for the Saturday.

Will it be worth the 3h drive to go for the start and evening? I've been to Le Mans a few times before and really enjoyed it.

The scale of the track is a bit daunting though. If it's worth attending, can the regulars give any advice on what I should do to get the most out of limited time?

Cheers,

Simon

The start is quite interesting to see because of the big split groups of cars starting. We watched from a grandstand near the start last year and it was good, though the old circuit is a lot more interesting if you are only there for a few hours. We went to Adenau overnight via the bridge entrance and wandered around for a few hours, lots to see. I can also imagine that seeing the bunched up groups of cars at the start on a tighter part of the track would be interesting. If you can stay to see darkness settle too it could be worthwhile. If you can get any accurate prediction of local weather too (difficult I would imagine) then that is worth looking at.

The start is good, if only for the volume of cars squeezing round the Castrol S at the end of the straight. If you can hang around till after dark, from the entrance by Adenau bridge you can walk right round to Metzgesfeld, and there is a little kink between Kallenhard and Wehrseifen that is quite dramatic as dusk falls. Either that or Brunnchen/Pflanzgarten, but be prepared for some lunatics in the camp site there!
