Hi All,

Great forum, have been an avid reader for a number of months, but this is my first post. I'm looking for some advice, my beloved BMW Z4m Roadster is up for its first Inspection II service and have been quoted by BMW Nottingham £1,051 for the pleasure. Can anyone recommend a good indy dealers around the Nottingham area at a more reasonable price and is there anything in-particular worth watching out for?

Thanks in advanced,
Jon

Don't know any indies but when I had my Z4MC ringing a few BMW main dealers got my bill down by about £200 by price matching.

From my garage blog "5/2010 - 47K Insp II - £931 inc. brake fluid, aircon clean and regas and wipers".

Shop around and make sure they give you valve clearance measurements sheet (pedants on places like PH will want to look see if you come to sell on wink )

Crikey that's very expensive. Funny because I had my Inspection 1 at Sytner Nottingham and they price matched so it cost me £670. Try Stratstone Chesterfield for a price and someone like Elms Cambridge or Batemans in the Lake District as they usually come out really cheap and then you can use that to beat Sytners down to a more sensible price.

There are quite a few threads on the z4-forum on this topic.

I use Darren Wood in Stockport (appreciate it's a bit of drive for you but could be worse) and they come highly recommended across the BMW fora. My experience with them has always been spot on.

Price for an Inspection II is £495 + VAT from memory.

Thanks for all your help guys, think I'm going back to Sytner to see what they can do on price.

I've been to Sytner Nottingham numerous times and I just can't put up with their rubbish levels of customer service (especially with their "can't do" attitude in just about every department, be it sales, service, or parts).

Go to Series 9 in the city centre, Dave (the owner) is a top bloke. He did my E46 M3.

ETA: They website shows they're a Porsche specialist, but in reality all the work they do is mostly on BMWs now.

Batemans in the Lakes are excellent and cheap for a main dealer. Autotech (Pete) in telford is the best indie for 'M's

I had an inspection 2 carried out on my Z4M Roadster for approx £500-£600 with Cotswold BMW (cannot remember exactly as it was last year, just that it was more than half the price of other dealers). I rang 4 BMW main dealers who quoted £1,200 and none of them asked for the car the night before (as the valve clearances have to be adjusted when the car is cold), only Cotswold's did. The reasons Cotswolds offer it for that price, is that you are provided 50% discount for cars over a certain age (mine was a 2006), as BMW want to encourage "older" cars to come back to their main dealers. At that price I wouldn't think of using an Indy. Ring Cotswold's, they're by far the best BMW dealer I've used.

For an Inspection II?! Surely not. Have never seen it below about £750 for a Z4M from a main dealer.

Check www.maindealerdiscount.com

Never used it myself other than to get a benchmark price, but you can 'book' online.

That looks too good to be true. It quotes Rybrook BMW Warwick as being able to offer an Inspection II for £259 with no courtesy car...but still!

Hi there - the prices on MDD for Z4M roadster are currently incorrect. There is a mapping defect that brings up the standard 6 Cyl Z4 as opposed to the 'M' Z4. This defect should be solved within 10 days. When it's fixed you can expect to receive at least 25% off of list price for Z4M servicing if the car is over 3 years old. FYI the Insp 1 and 2 for Z4M is a 2 day job.

No it's not!

It's a 5-6 hour job that stipulates the car being stone-cold before adjusting the valve clearances. The best way to manage this is to drop it off the night before, so that it can cool completely overnight.

A couple of the dealers I've used that have offered 'good' rates *(i.e. not £400 ones, but those offering 10-20% discount for loyalty/four plus/BMW car club, so £700 or so) are cutting corners by failing to complete some of the 'inspection' parts of the Inspection. In my case the same dealer has failed spot a bald tyre, broken drop-link, heavily worn disks & pads, couldn't find an oil leak after 3 visits (2nd dealer found it in 30 minutes), forgetting to stamp the service book or reset the service indicator, etc.

You used to automatically get a report showing tread depths, pad & disc thickness, valve clearance measurements before & after, etc. I shouldn't have to remind them of what I've paid for, or that I'm only paying BMW dealer prices for the warranty & BMW service history.

If they're not going to do the job right, or record it properly, then I might was well go to Kwik-Fit and save 90% - although I wouldn't and will take it to a specialist once my warranty expires!
