My Red Top 40 (of unknown age) is struggling with the LS7.
What battery are other LS7 owners using successfully?

Just ordered one of these http://www.varleyredtop.com/pdf/1_vrt60.pdfThe most expensive battery I have ever bought (about the same price as I paid for 2 x 12V batteries for a 400hp rubber track, 18 tonne, 11.9 lit engined diesel tractor) and I will have to make a new battery box (not a problem) but it will fit and should give me plenty of cranking power. Bugger.... My cars at the bodyshop and I should be picking it up today but just had a call to say that the battery (Varley Redtop 40) is flat as pancake. They are going to chuck a charge into it to see if it takes and I can collect this afternoon, but it looks like I'm going to have to get another, a bit of a bummer as it's about three years old.

Believe that the factory recommend Odyssey Extreme 40 for LSx installs. Just fitted one to my SBC fitted car (but with EFI) and it's a night and day improvement from the old Odyssey PC625. The old battery had enough oomph to crank but the voltage was getting too low and causing the ECU to reset. The new battery can crank and crank and crank without so much as a stray reset. Of course having a good enough ECU tune that means you don't have to crank repeatedly clearing a flooded engine would be a good plan but that's another story... As a bonus I believe that they are the same physical size as the Varley Red Top 40. Measure carefully I've not checked this but my original battery clamp (intended for a Red Top 40) fitted.
