Beijing show: Eterniti Artemis

Cayenne-based, British-built 'super-SUV' joins the blingy 4x4 parade at the Beijing show

Fed up with blingy, overpriced SUVs with huge amounts of horsepower? Bad luck, because the Chinese and other emerging markets aren’t and the Beijing show offers up yet another. This is the car formerly known as the Eterniti Hemera, renamed Artemis and making its debut in the market in which it was designed for.

It's fast ... and ... yes, it's fast
It's fast ... and ... yes, it's fast
The background to the car can be seen in our previous story but the basics are a Cayenne, rebodied in swollen carbon fibre, tickled to deliver ‘over 600hp’ and then laden with a host of iPad-controlled luxury trappings. Four seats, 100mm of extra legroom and lots of bling are aimed directly at markets, like China, where customers like to be driven as well as drive themselves, the Cayenne underpinnings meaning the necessary sturdiness to handle broken roads that would leave a conventional limo struggling. Somewhat boldly, Eterniti proclaims the Artemis as ‘the ultimate crossover’.

Eterniti is also giving itself credit for launching the first ‘Super-SUV’ and beating Lamborghini, Bentley and Maserati (and others) to the punch with a production-ready car. The examples in Beijing are described as ‘running prototypes’, pictures of one undergoing shake down at the Prodrive test track used by Chris Harris in his recent Renault Twizy/Clio video being released to underline that fact. A semblance of performance credibility comes from the involvement of race engineer Alexander Macqueen and Johnny Herbert, Eterniti boasting of 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 180mph.

Going by reaction to the Lamborghini Urus and £80K Beckhamised Evoque, it’s unlikely Eterniti is going to be besieged by PHers wanting to lay down £210K (plus taxes) for the, er, privilege of ownership. But that’s OK. Because the firm’s sights are set further afield. Best of British to them, in that case.

Front looks a bit Tribeca (ish), rear has a hint of BTCC Leon. Not a massive fan but I bet it pulls like a train!

Well, it could be worse.... There's a beaut of a Geely in this story. Looks like they based the front end on a fish-eye photo an XJ.

Someone has stuck a BTCC Seat style body kit on a Cayenne.

Porsche Cayenne + Audi A3 + Subaru STi hatch = Horrid.
If i had the money, i'd wait for the Maserati. Ownership of this monstrosity is just the ultimate way of saying "I'm an idiot".
Even if it turns out to be the best handling barge-bucket ever.

This is insane!!! for years now we have been buying some Chinese cack, now I suppose its our turn to give back with this.

That much money for essentially a body kit and some extra leather and a couple of Ipads...

1: china builds Ipads
2: were the cows fed Caviare?
3: Half a million after import tax...

Unbelievable, at least its bringing a bit of prosperity to the 3rd world that is Park Royal north west London

And it doesn't look hugely different. I'm guessing we might see a few more ''new'' car manufactures spring out of the woodwork over the next few years.

Rather have a Range Rover Vogue Overfinch...and a house for that money.

EDIT: like the exhausts though

Anyone who looks at this hideous creation and thinks it’s good looking and anyway desirable must be the sort of man who sees Fatima Whitbread and thinks hmmm I‘d like a go on that.
