Volvo Door locked locked - how to open?
Discussion
Mods can you leave this here even if it's for a short while cos if it gets moved to the Volvo Section it's like a morgue in there ;-)
Mate turned up with a car problem to pick my brains
Volvo C70 convertible (2000 model). Passenger door will not to release either from the inside or out.
Door cards been removed - pull up button/rod is locked solid
Outside door handle is solid
My money was on the actuator but to replace it you need to be able to open the door to undo the bolts that hold the latch assembly and actuator unit to the door and you can't open the door because it's locked shut
He's managed to remove the door card and I had a clear view inside the door internals but there doesn't seem to be anything I can see and there is a smidge to much electrickery going on for my liking - mechanical stuff I'm fine with but electrickery is not
So I put on safety goggles and riggers gloves (thanks riggers - fit me a treat ) reached for the top shelf and fired up the petrol Disc cutter before it got too late to use power tools
Damn shame - I nearly got close enough to effect a swift entrance but he stopped me apparently this was NOT the sort of assistance he required........
Bums and hats - I can't help over to you guys

+1 on the disc cutter.
Seemed way easier to me - but it would have made a few marks on the paintwork - I did say I can fire the mig up afterwards and weld it up again and that could be done at any time of the evening cos it doesn't make much noise Bit of wag - flat back and a halfords rattle can of nearly colour matched - jobs jobbed - a blind man on a donkey would be hard pressed to see it
He still wasn't keen......
Mate of mine has this problem regularly with jammed/knackered door locks and he has a range of tricks for freeing doors which are 'un-unlockable'.
All of them - every single one - involve some degree of violence and abuse tho - it's a case of working out what's cheapest to replace and hacking/cutting/sawing away at it.
Some cars you can get a screwdriver in and force the latch off - some you can cut through the 'pin' that the latch hits (you just need a replacement door slam catch plate) - some cars you can actually drop the door off the hinge - some you drill-out the lock itself and so on.
Talk to a Volvo specialist - they'll probably give you a hint (and a likely price from them to do it).

I've sent an email with a possible solution.
Thank youEdited to add - understand why you wouldn't post that up
Just to re-cap
Rest of the car (Drivers door and boot open on the key operated central locking)
The passenger door is "Locked locked" Pulling the internal handle, the external handle and the lock button all have no effect - No movement - locked/frozen call it what you want

Clever - never thought about the pin element - wonder how that's fixed to the shellCan't drill out the key lock it doesn't have one fitted in the passenger door - sems to be a modern trend
Good thing is we can at least check things out with the drivers side door as that works fine....
