Hi although the car has just passed it MOT i am not happy with the condition of the rubber fuel lines in the engine bay.
There are signs of the outer covering cracking
some of these fuel lines are fairly short others disappear so it is difficult to determine the length of the replacement required.
So couple of questions what is the internal diameter of the fuel line, i am guessing 8mm.
Is it all 8mm ?? And how much new fuel line do i need to replace the whole system.
Any one know the answer, as years ago i had a Lotus Elan dissapper in flames due to a fuel leak and i do not want a repeat performance as this car is much better than a lotus.
Regards
Rog
Sorry to all early Lotus fans.

If you're noticing the ageing fuel lines in the engine bay, its worth popping off the read wheel and checking out the other rubber hoses;

Bent pipe to pump (this is a big dia hose)
Pump to filter (8mm)
Filter to copper line to engine bay (8mm)

I found they all were aged, and replacing one at a time meant that every 6 months I was taking the wheel off to replace the next. Should of done them all at the same time. I;ve not figured out how to change the tank to bent pipe bit yet.

If you have a pre face lift like mine it is almost impossible to swop the engine bay fuel lines unless you are willing to cut the copper fuel lines a lot lower.

Im doing mine when the gearbox is out ,its a doddle ,also useing this stuff to protect it from the heat ,don`t like the metal braided stuff it created more heat around the hose.

Piece of cake with the plenum off Daz wink(and no cutting the hard-lines) and I have the supplementary heater duct to contend with just in front of said pipes that not all Chims have fitted frown

Haha, its simply a copper pipe that goes over the rear wishbone. It will be obvious when you are looking near the fuel pump. The size of pipe required for replacement before the fuel pump is 12mm;

Rog,
It's 7mm if you have aircon. You probably know this but there are two pipes on the front, a feed and a return - the return comes down the drivers side chassis rail and goes from copper to hose under the arb bracket at the rear. I would do front and back whilst your at it. HTH
