Or avoid the toll roads entirely and see some of the wonderful French roads. I've had a look at our route on StreetView from St Malo and can#t wait. Nice quiet country roads, little villages and cheeky cigar breaks.

Been available for near on two years in the UK. Had mine most of that time. Really good, particularly for alarming Le Francais as you approach the tolls: they don't know whether to follow you or think you've made an error. The transponder is particularly useful on the return journey as the tolls are exceptionally busy.
Only issue to watch out for is the battery going flat after maybe 2 years of use.

Bit of advice.
I have had my transponder for a couple of years now and it is excellent. However last year on a trip to Switzerland the transponder would not work. "Battery" I thought as the locals began to get impatient behind me. It wasn't the battery it was due to the fact that the credit card I use to pay for the thing had expired. Popped into the office at the Peage and sorted out in minutes.

I am travelling from st malo. I have never done this before. I have looked at the map there seems to be lots off different ways, so not sure which route to take, any chance of sharing your tried and tested routes, keen to avoid boring toll roads , and I have got all day to do it in. Thanks

I picked up one a few weeks back, it arrived in 2 days, ready for Le Mans and my French camping holiday. I expect it will save over an hour on the whole Le Mans trip.

No Sir they actually add hours to your journey when everyone esle has them and you have to queue to go through so not a good idea and they are expensive and you get an anual fee even the French don,t use them

The annual fee is if you don't use it.
There is a 5 Euro surcharge per month it is used, and given the time I have lost in the past, waiting to get a ticket, and then waiting to pay. I'd rather pay the extra charges.
Still like the idea of driving through at 30kph. Looking forward to testing it.

Driving through at 30k !!!!!!
Eh nope you have to slow down sometimes to a stop before the barrier opens with the sweet sound of the high pitched bleep. (But still great passing all the others lining up to pay).

John Not any more they now have a sensor that picks up your transponder before you get to the peage and gives you a green light so you can drive trhough at 30k, but been so many crashes that I would not advise anyone to get one, they would be better to que up

Add on €20 deposit and €10 "application fee" and the 2% (+TVA) they add on to the exchange rate and it's pretty pricey unless you do lots of miles to save lots of time. https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/faq/support...

I'm not sure its worth the bother for those of us that go a couple of times a year... the tolls have not been so bad for me the last few years I can remember.

Not worried about the setup costs, it's the convenience factor for me.
The one potential downside, is the lack of Le Mans photos at the toll booth going through on the far side.

We went as near to a straight line as possible. Nick
