After a pleasant afternoon at RSJ I've been measuring up and checked the actual width of the car from mirror to mirror but obviously there's the slight issue of getting in and out of the car once it's tucked away for the night. Of those of you who garage your 996, can you tell me the width of your garage and how much of a squeeze you've found it.
I'll likely be building an extension on the side of the house for a garage and I have 2200mm to play with, but that will need to include a new wall so maybe take off another 200mm for that.
Thoughts?

Hi David, my steed sits in a 10' 6" garage (old money) which means the driver and passenger can get in and out without breaking any bones.

No its not ideal......................................... Not sure what mine is but I use the same tactic as above, also have large pieces of sponge on the wall where drivers door opens, far better than leaving outside.

I have a similar problem too The up & over door posts are 2050mm wide I have put sponge pipe lagging tubes on them,It worries me everytime I put the car in or out. Reversing out is a little easier as I can see in the mirrors ! My garage widens out once in . still not ideal though
If you have to include a wall in the 2200mm you will never get out of the car ? Maybe some kind of carport arrangement with infilled wood panelling ? Probably not perfect but just a thought.

Go as wide as possible. My garage is an integral part of the house, therefore no options for me. Once C4S is safely parked in garage tight against one wall I have to climb over and get out passenger side! I've also stuck carpet on the walls where the doors open to, to avoid door edges and brickwork. Total PITA, but better than leaving it on the driveway.

When the extension was built on my house (by the previous owner) the builder didn't put a section of celcon blocks along the outside wall (obviously there is a beam above......I hope). This means that I can reverse my car in and open the door but I can't open the passenger door. I'll post a photo if that doesn't make sense !!

Not a C4S though........... I bought two Porsche banners from an ebay shop to hang in the 'gap' to avoid chipping the drivers door :

Mine's 2800mm wide with a 2300 opening. Plenty of space to get in either side although I often pop the roof down to make life easier.

OP: any size so long as you can get the car in and out and you can do the same without doing yourself an injury (goodness knows exactly what this size is, and presumably it will depend on how large you are yourself). Totally recommend garaging if you can and I personally wouldn't run a 911 if I couldn't do so, although plenty don't. If room is tight, you can fit tracks (or whatever they're called) to the garage floor to make sure you park in the ideal position. The carpet on the wall beside the driver's door is also a sensible measure.
