My O/H has a '53 MK4 Golf GTi.

Yesterday, I started it up after it standing unusued for just over two weeks.

The battery barely had enough power to turn the engine over, but it just managed to start.

However...

When I first cranked it, I heard what can only be described as a "clonk" from what I think was the central locking.

Now, when we open the car with the remote, only the driver's door will unlock - no matter how many times you press the unlock button on the fob.

It was previously programmed that if you pressed unlock once, only the driver's door would unlock, and a second press would unlock the other 3 doors and boot.

How can I restore this behaviour - or is it a trip to a dealer for reprogramming?

TIA.

My wife's mkiv had a similar problem - I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes, reconnected it and it reset itself ie 1 press =driver's door, 2 presses= all doors.
Give that a go.

If this happens again (as it did to me) it will be a case of a new battery, it kept bloody doing it but my god it fired up like a ww2 German tank when i put a new battery on it idea
