Lancia, what has happened to them?
Discussion
I don't understand why they launched the Lancia Delta in the UK as a Chrysler
was it something to do with the rep they had for rust buckets
Crystlers have a rep for being a piece of st anyway
but surely the Delta name in the UK is the holy grail of a rally car for the road
I thought they would have had more success if they had kept the Lancia Delta as a Lancia Delta in the UK
and brought out an Intergrale version with all the attributes of the original
think it would have sold by the bucket load
but i don't think I have ever seen a new Delta on the road

The new Delta when launched was actually a pretty decent car! Although it has only recently gone on sale over here it has been on sale since 2008 so is now passed its best!
The Ypsilon seems like a pretty decent car and is definitely one of the better looking city cars around.
For many years, even the Intergrale years, Lancia has been a bit of an Italian 'Rover'. Chrysler is a very similar brand aiming at similar people so; to me at least, it makes sense the two companies under Fiat work together. The next generation of cars could actually be quite interesting!
Lancia will never go back to making sporting cars, as that is covered by Alfa and Maserati. Cars that are a bit softer and more comfortable are likely to be the route that Lancia take. If they do it right could be a credible alternative to the hard edged Germans and rival cars like Citroens DS and become a fashionable alternative.

Its actually a very daft own goal by FIAT not to put Lancia back into rallying. The Lancia/Chrysler tie up makes sense on the plaform, finance and business side. No problem. Aim them at the Rover-ish market. Again, no problem and for many years a standard Lancia market. The difference was Lancia always produced something sportingly special at the top of the tree.
Rallying is an open goal. Its Citreon only really, but with no marketing budget behind it. Rallying is languishing, but it has a dormant *very* developed fan base. Lancia take the Delta rallying with a new Integrale and they will have an instant fan base. Would you back Lancia to *not* be successful in competition?
2ltr turbo, 4wd, 300BHP, Italian leather clad interior, Recarros and Martini sponsorship. Badum and tish.

Im with you but unfortuantely the Delta is just too big to rally. Its much longer than a focus and the new rally cars are Fiesta size with 1.6 turbo engines. It might work as some type of Touring car however.Rallying is an open goal. Its Citreon only really, but with no marketing budget behind it. If they were only to go with something like this! It wouldn’t necessary have to be a mega quick car, a nicely balanced, well equipped, quickish car somewhere between an MX-5 cars and an Audi TT would be perfect. It would do wonders for the profile of the brand and they have no shortage of platforms and engines to use.
