The CGT was produced from 2004 through 2006. Were there any changes to the car during that period (i.e. is there any benefit from purchasing those produced later)?

Does colour play any role in ease of resale? Black and silver seem to be the most common. Does that mean red/yellow/other are (even) more difficult to sell?

all fking fantastic - spending that amount on a missile I wouldnt be bothered about resale - just get the colour you want and NO I dont believe there were any "updates" as such.

Enjoy . . .

Don't forget you can check the hours the car has been running, which should match up with mileage.

Without fail, get it on a lift and look underneath ... if the seller does not allow this or want to do it .. walk away.

I think there are quite a few that have been colour-changed to suit owners' tastes, but/because it's not difficult to do as all panels are designed to be removable, so I don't think it affects values (providing it's been done properly).

some of the later cars had better to modulate cluthes.

The current weeks autocar has a little piece in CGT. Mainly how they haven't gone down in value.

They did mention something about a 'phase 2' clutch which was introduced, which is meant to be easier to use.

But I'm sure this can be fitted if not already installed.

Indeed the only difference btw the earlier cars and the late 2005-2006 cars is the clutch.

I would steer away from a very early car unless they update the clutch (most of these did).

This is one of the greatest cars that ANYONE has ever made. Good at everything. Doesn't like crap drivers (like me) though, so know your stuff, as it's a MONUMENTAL step up from a Strad.

No. Not yet. Given my past history, there is a fair change I will change the CS for something else next year (much as I'd love to add to my collection I don't have the space so to get something new I'll have to sell something off). Whilst the weather is okay here in Switzerland I'm starting to do some research on the CGT as that is one of the options and prices don't seem too bad over here in Switzerland. Also seems like relatively good value when you consider how much an Enzo still fetches. Of course, if I drive one and it blows my mind then the decision could always be brought forward...although the CS is lovely and would be difficult to part with.

Have to partially disagree about the "good at everything"....it's not a car you wish to use often given the ridicolously low clereance (you can solve this one buying a good set of KW suspensions with lifting system) and the annoying clutch! I mean, you kind of get used to the clutch but if you happen to sit in traffic for long it just rattle and jump like there is no tomorrow, also in the updated version...happened to be in Monaco 3 weeks ago and my worst nightmare were red traffic lights in these small uphill roads...nightmare!!

Having said that, other then these two things, it's still one of the most amazing cars you can drive, the sound, the pureness, the virtual inexistent inertia of the flywheel...everything has been built for a purpose, that purpose being making you smile every time you sit in it.

Had an SLR for a bit more then a year and that's actually a car you can and want to drive every day, but a completely different experience.

Haha! You're right, it was horrific taking it out of my underground car park in London! Major concentration on the clutch to climb the ramp, together with positioning car at angle to get up without hurting the front followed by horrific scraping of expendable plastic splitter. And it wasn't even my car! (thanks Kev!) Maybe that's what made it so nerve racking.
On the move, even around central London though, it was fantastic and you could live with everything.
WHAT a machine though! And what magnificent build quality (unless you've experienced otherwise). Fantastic!

I can only agree with the above. An amazing car which rewards like few others. Mine has now done 16,000 miles - most recently a trip to the historic grand prix in Monaco. It was a risk taking the car - mountain passes and those low-to-the-ground carbon fibre under trays don't always mix well, but it was worth it! Hour upon hour of high speed motoring with the V10 howling off the rock faces, the ultra responsive front end scything through the bends, brakes tirelessly scrubbing speed - it was motoring nirvana.

The car parks in San Remo were a challenge but I'm used to the clutch now and only stalled once. I had the clutch wear checked and even over 2k miles it showed no measurable wear. It is a strong car and the engine is so over engineered for road use you think nothing of revving it to the heavens for mile after mile.

A friend of mine was following in his 530hp 996 GT2. He's a better driver than me. After one section he told me that he simply could not believe how flat the car was cornering. He could not keep up.

The trip will cost me a couple of grand as the car did suffer some underbody scrapes that need repairing, but I'm just glad I'm using the car as those geniuses at Stuttgart intended.

Cheers

The Carrera gt .
My absolute favourite car of all time . An old school analogue Supercar but with truly modern , awesome  reliability and over engineering . It's engine started life in an aborted f1 project and was later modified again for le mans then finally they built the purest modern Supercar around it .
It is a towering achievement , devoid of crass over styling and electronic nannies . It's almost terrifying , obsessive form over function design appeals to me greatly and I think the organic " land shark " look hasn't dated a day either .
A sweet handling , full , red blooded Supercar that rewards the good driver and mercilessly punishes the oaf .
The clutch is easily dealt with ( once you learn to trust the anti stall ) and ground clearance is indeed an issue but it's a small price to pay for a car that will reward you and
Excite you for all your life  and leave you hypnotised with its howling sirens song .
I will never be better than that car . I still , after 2 Carrera gts over several years , find myself in the garage almost every night ( puffing on a ciggy ) talking to the car and looking over its amazing attention to detail . Almost every morning I think " who left that there ? " before I remember I am actually the lucky bugger that owns it . It puts all my other cars to shame . I step out of it tingling , a little scared and high as a kite .
I truly do not understand why anyone that could even remotely afford this car hasn't bought one and isn't in it as we speak , driving it to spa .
Most cars will have had a clutch change by now , so you needn't worry about that . Call Andy Keywood or John Manning at Porsche reading , get them to look over the car you want ( they know most of the cars anyway ) and prepare for the car ownership experience of a lifetime .
Put the car on supers ports , give it a little geo and its just perfect you don't need lift kits , retrofits and other such gumpf ( no offence ) .
However I warn you , you will not look at other cars the same again .
it is Excalibur .
