Just picked up my Tuscan from STR8Six yesterday.

Went in with a few concerns, one of which was poor idle and hesitancy at small throttle inputs....I know, I know, should be done at a service anyway - but just wanted to say that they have transformed the car in terms of throttle response/tractability. It is now possible to 'pootle' in 4th & 5th gears - should you so wish!!

Usual feeling that everything itemised on the bill was done (well) and the whole car was thoroughly checked. Proper customer service.

Yep, completely agree. I just love how you can actually see the attention to detail. Little blobs of flourescent marker on vital areas like the wheel bearings and hubs to show it's been accomplished, lubricated hinges and contact points, copperslip, re-adjustment of doors, checking stuff like the correct operation of the alarm (mine was found to be a bit dodgy, turned out the alarm solenoid had been fitted upside down beneath the centre console by the factory). It's not just the expertise on the major stuff, it's the attention to detail on little stuff, over and above the 'factory recommended list'. And the honest advisories, oh God yes the advisories, listed in detail and in timescale importance, so that you can choose to get it sorted right then, or if less significant, leave it for the next time. This let's you be aware of what is going to need doing, an estimate of when, so you can budget for it. I could go on and on about the 'little extras' and the "go that extra mile" customer service, but those who go.... know. I love knowing exactly where I am with my car, and knowing what to expect. Suffice it to say, I do a 500 mile round trip every year to spend my pennies at STR8SIX and I only ever feel it is money well spent, even when it hurts!

Hi Nick,

Glad you're sorted, we must have just missed you yesterday got there just after 3pm. Must say mine is running sweet too, the guys saved me a few quid by fine tuning the throttle bodies rather than the planned replacement, means I have funds to upgrade elsewhere biggrin

The guys also put the drain hose from the carbon canister back through the body, something I was going to do myself this/next weekend and had asked what was the best method, just a small part of a fairly long conversation with Mark during their open day. It may have been only a two minute job for them but saved me some heartache thumbup

Completely agree, proper customer service yes

Hi Andy,
Yep got there about 1415...and by the time Chas had gone through the 'service sheet' with me it was nearly 3(ish). Bit concerned that I'd get caught in the Friday 'road-block' at Winchester, I decided to push on....Roof off - sun out...Roll on Le Mans eh?
See you next meet.

The guys there are excellent, during my service they picked up a few things that would have escaped me even if i was looking for them.

First was a screw missing from the blue throttle pot (yes, the blue throttle pot, at the back of the engine bay...you cant see it!) apparently mark (i think its marke....does most of the servicing work in the place of gordie) noticed it whilst replacing the HT leads.

The second was noticing that a couple of the bolts on the throttle bodies had come slightly loose, and that on full throttle mark demonstrated that it could stick eek it had been luck that it hadnt happened to me!!

They are top guys, and will say it like it is...

This fills me with confidence as my car is currently at str8 6 and after a few bad experiences with other car garages I am still a little worried, this thread has eased it a bit....

I have had the list of faults off of chaz (seems like a nice guy) and the main ones are diff bushes, wishbone bushes, engine mount and leaking clutch slave so maybe a new clutch too.

I hope they don't frighten me too much with the price on monday....

Yep - just don't get your wheels refurb'd by them, whoever they use they need to change. Got a receipt from them in the SH of my car - expensive and awful quality.

agree on the wheels. I had one done last year, now all the filler and paint has chipped off and it looks like I never had it refurb'ed.

Strange, got my Cerb wheels done there in Jan which included a full strip and re-done is shadow chrome, simply stunning finish.

If you are not happy with them just complain, knowing the service ethic they have there they would rather that happened than have someone not happy with any thng they have been associated with.

I can't really complain as they were done there by the previous owner in May 2011 and to be honest there isn't anything wrong with them per say, however I have a place local to me thats mobile and does a much better finish for nearly half the price. I just think for the money their charging the quality could be better.

For any wheel repairs/re-coating, I'd recommend "The Wheel Specialist". They are a franchise, so if you google the name you should get the website and be able to see if there is a branch near you.

They check the wheel for trueness/buckling/out of round, then bead blast, then remove any damage or build up with weld then powdercoat and bake. Our local branch is very good, gives a discount to TVRCC and usually turns the repair around in a day. Cost is about £80/wheel

That is what I had done to mine about the same cost as well, with in a fiver I seem to rememeber. May be they use someone different from this time last year.

my only niggle, i wish they would answer piggin emails!!!

I know, before i get flamed, they are busy guys, but im in an open plan office...its much easier to mail than call!!

I have to plan a call in advance and then if i cant get hold of Jason / Chas is a PITA...but hey, thats because they are busy seeing to our cars so i guess its not really a bad thing!!!

If ur in the SE, I can highly recommend http://www.wheelworksuk.co.uk/. Superb quality refurb, took me thru the whole process, then a full tour of their facilities showing me why their finish is so robust, and having slightly kerbed one since, I can vouch for that with no flaking, no lacquer peeling (cos even the lacquer is podwer coat heated/bonded to the final coat). They even accomodated my fussy request for a Porsche Basalt Black finish and very competitive price £60+vat per wheel.

Jason often replied to my email within the same day. I guess we are now in summer months, lots of cars wanted to be serviced for the sun.

I don't suppose you know what they did to fix the poor idle and hesitant throttle? My new car does it and it would be nice to sort out smile

Highly likely, unless new parts were involved, that it was just a throttle body balance and set up, reset maps. That can make a huge impact on your idling and throttle response.

I had an email today from the guys at Str8 six replying to the one i had sent a while back and then moaned about no reply - thought i had better put the record straight because the way i wrote my gripe above - it came out as a personal slight at Chas which really wasnt intended!! I meant to say that to have to plan a call only to find one of them wasnt available was a PITA, not that Chas himself was a PITA, and for that slip up im sorry! what can i say apart from 'im a dumbass'boxedin

Anyway, the guys with exemplary customer service have done it again - this thread was spotted, so the guys actually went back through their email records and found that their original reply was undelivered - a problem with my email address apparently, and they then re-replied to my email - successfully this time...

How many companies would do that?! They really are top of the class...bow
