The car doesn't feel happy when I've tried this. I'd have thought it would increase wear on components.
Don't be so lazy, change into 1st!

Not a Major Potential Issue i would think, but you'll wear the clutch out quicker, as your laying more stress on the components! Why would you wanna do this anyway?

What a peculiar question.

Difficult to engage first gear in my car and hard to go from 1st to second so thought might be better to just start off in 2nd. So only problem is a bit more clutch wear and stress on 2nd gear I guess.

It shouldn't be hard to go into first, so surely it would be better to sort that problem out before it gets worse??

In such a light car, it's hardly like you have to slip the clutch to start in second - additional wear should be negligible.
My Elise is more than happy starting in 2nd, although again not sure why you'd want to a lot of the time. It's certainly slower!

Well as its potentially goosed anyway, crack on with pulling away in 2nd, as i reckon you ain't gona cause any further damage by pulling away in 2nd.lol However it's not a practice in General i would condone. That is why Car manufacturers gave us 1st gear, lol. If it was fine to constantly pull away in 2nd Gear, they'd make cars with gearboxs starting from 2nd gear.lol

I agree it selects easier, but since I've engaged 2nd I might aswell just drive off in it. Have started using first now by the way, just feels like less strain on the clutch Platinum said: Try selecting second before you attempt first gear.
