What do I need to know about a 924?

Have purchased an '81 924 for the princely sum of £370! 
Its a project to work on the paint, but I was wondering "deep down" what else could / does go wrong on these cars. This one is the basic 2 litre in guards red (I think its guards red anyway...)
Has no MOT or tax currently, but would like to try it for an MOT once I have done the paintwork.

Personally I would get the mot done before spending out on paintwork.
The car is very basic really, just check it out how you would normally check out any car.
The rear brake lines corrode, and are not fun to replace, the headlamps can stop popping up, rust on the side sills (not as bad as 944, but still worth looking)
The engine is nice and strong generally, a friend of mine has just rebuilt one, and spent 3 months trying to find main shells for it, so be aware of parts availability.
Hows the dash? they tend to crack badly on top due to sun damage.
Torque tube and diff bearings need listening to also.

There is a great thread on Reader's cars about a guy who runs a 924 as a first car, there was also a good thread following a SOTW, there were links off those to the specialist forums that offer a wealth of info

great little car. Not quick, cant be made too quick power-wise, but lovely handling. And pop-up lights. And a useable hatchback. Wheeler dealers did a 924 a few years back, watch that as well.
Watched that earlier and TOTALLY inspired me!

Really? The Passat feels quicker but that can hold more speed in the corners due to the suspension not needing a major overhaul. I would've thought your Skoda should be able to make mincemeat of my little Porsche.

the roads were damp and I was on crappy tyres for wet roads. Don't inspire confidence.
Here's a video as collected the porker tonight. Now at my mate's garage and hopefully go through MOT in next day or two, then I can start on the paint.

Well, it will be on the road in and around Exmouth from 1st July. MOT was only about £80 of work and getting cambelt done whilst there as not worth risking it.
Got a cheap limited mileage policy for a year, and road tax I think will be £120 for 6 months. Then I shall just be doing it up as I go along.
Paintwork needs some attention and hoping most will come out with all my paint detailing gear.

I have a 924 in showroom condition just sitting in the garage. It was left by an uncle and I didnt have the heart to sell it. I got it up and running 2 years ago. Bodywork and interior is immaculate and stainless exhaust.
It runs but a little lumpy and the handbrake light is stuck on. 1979 silver with porsche motif in black along side.
I am now obviously in Oz and I doubt I will be shipping it so it seems a shame it just sitting in a garage.

1500/2000 wouldn't have been enough for me. I even gave up on 1200 grit as it wasn't cutting sufficiently. However, I think this paint is particularly bad, and I am being forced to go digging for paint that's been hidden for a long time.
Edit: Cutting compounds were not touching this faded paint - it was beyond faded, if there is another stage - oxidised I guess. I have a dogs nads machine polisher and the best polishes, but it wasn't even close to cutting enough, hence me resorting to wet and dry.
