Hi guy's I'm struggling to find some proper info on these,Well I've found alot of info but not exactly what I'm looking for. For starter's am I looking at the right car/truck/tank for me ?I would never dream of looking at a 4x4 honestly not my thing at all and I was disgusted when Porsche actually launched the cayenne but I don't know what's come over me I've gone more SL55 from CSL tastes lately ..And basically fancy something with a nice V8 Burble/good auto box/comfy/point and squirt kinda performance.I think the cayenne looks have aged well and there alot of car for the money. Anyways People say they drive like a sports car... But what to they mean? Are we talking a cayenne wouldn't be far of handling aswell as my Z4 3.0? which to be honest had such a ruff/stiff ride over anything other than wasn't be perfectly smooth was unsettled and would skip about.I thinking the cayenne would steamroll over SE London bumps? lol.I'm fed up of having to slow down to 5-10mph for every speed bump. How fast are they really? I know there 6.8/7.0 secs to 60 which I don't think is fair with a slush box and 2 ton plus weight 50-120mph what are hey equal with The only downside I can think of is the MPG what am I looking at for nippy London driving 15mpg? Take it easy use engine braking alot maybe 20mpg? Motorway 25mpg at 70mph? I searched for figures but everyone online seems to get double every MPG I get in other cars so any realist's?? Maybe all p/h members live out in the sticks and never seen a set of traffic lights? lol.. Am I right in thinking before 2006 model will also be £260 Road tax aswell? Options what's standard on the 4.5s? I see parking sensors are not ??!? What do I essentials ?? Do they come with AUX? Xenons? Biggest question ? Air suspension..I'd like it to handle as I will be pushing the thing from time to time.So is it much improved with Air? Rides better? Problematic? not really worth it? Looking to purchase Aug time,And getting alot of stick from my mates saying just to buy a late E46 M3 But I fancy something v8 with a auto box? Am I so evil ? lol. Thanks for any advise from cayenne owners or ppl with experience

Unless you need the off-road ability or extra space, why not go for a high performance saloon/estate. M5, RS6 etc? Or you could just buy a Range Rooney instead.

M5 hmm I like them but id get a e46 m3 instead. don't want a racer sharp v10 with edgy gearbox... I've driven one,Also the ride compared to a cayenne? There need exactly a beefy motor the v10 either (which was surprising). Price? Decent mileage cayenne's are 10-13k to buy at the ones i'm looking at m5's gotta be 15k plus still. Reason I like the cayenne over the x5/range is its alot more rare and the range looked massive next the cayenne in the dealership cayenne was fairly small and car like inside.I like that the roof line was lower than my head! the Range was taller than me.Plus i hear the cayenne the funnest to drive! Just like the idea of being able to drive over curbs turning round..not watching alloys when I park. not feel like im destroying my suspension every time i'm driving around London.Just jump in and drive and not care to much. I'm not looking for ultra sharp edge machine to go back and from work too and to the gym..gonna give me a headache. If I wanna go truly nuts i go jump on my GSXR1000 :/ ..

Sounds like you need something with a decent ride quality and power rather than something big then. I'm not sure what that car would be to be honest. Everything with power seems to have 20" wheels these days, which will always leave you crashing and banging around the streets of London.

I would be looking at XK8/XKR if you want something with a v8 burble that's comfy with point and squirt performance.
No need to get a 4x4 (unless have dogs/kids/caravan/etc and need something large).
If the Jag doesn't suit there are plenty of softish GT-type cars out there that look nice, sound good and aren't a massive great bus

Cayenne 4.5S air suspension, 19" wheels and most extras, ex demo car. Motorway driving 75ish 23/24 mpg. Town work scary 14/16. I don't do huge miles, 8/10,00 a year. Full set of Conti sport tyres every year from £750 to £900. Service every other year ranges from £400 to £1,200. Brake pads every other year, discs every 4 years roughly. Reassuringly expensive to run but not horrific. Hugely capable car, supremely comfortable with air suspension and moderate sized wheels, will show a clean pair of heels to many things through the twisties . Can only see me changing it for a Cayenne Turbo.

I had a 4.5 Cayenne S for a year and now have had an E70 X5 (3.0D) for a year.
The Cayenne was more of an event, the X5 much more practical. In terms of handling, I think its a very close thing (my Cayenne had air suspension). The v8 is very refined, the diesel X5 less so but then you pay for it at the pumps Cayeene i got 14mpg in town whereas the X5 gets 24.
On identical runs down to the Alps, 600 miles, Cayenne gave 25mpg and X5 30mpg.
Reliability has been excellent on both - I love the sound system and pan roof on the X5.
Drive them all, also would recomend driving the Range - every journey really is an event with them, the TDV8 is a great engine - if i didnt need the 7 seats i would have gone for the RR. Cayenne for me, with current fuel prices just doesnt work. - tho 911 virgin have an lpg one right now.

thanks for the honest opions guys...Well i don't care for practial Im in my mid 20'd with no kids etc that's why I didn't mind the cayenne as it seemed fairling small (For its size) inside.
To clarify I do around 5-7k a year.Find the rigth spec seems to be a bit of bother.I want one with everything mainly Black/Black leather (don't like ligth interiors) Satnav and Air.Are xenons and parking sensors standard then? Hard to think of them not being? Is air that important ? What actualy benifits does it give?
Jag xk's yeah I like them but I think i'm a lil young for them? Good for my father me thinks :P

Good for my father me thinks :P Hey Luckily I'm on my 4th Cayenne, so if you need any more info let me know but main points I would look for are 1) See if you can get a MK2 version 4.8 rather than 4.5 - much better 2) Air - this is a must on these cars. 3) PDDC - Also a must Other points that arent that important but I found useful 1) Multi Function Steering wheel - had with and without and without is a pain in the arse!!! 2) Good sound system - the standard one is miles behind the Bose upgrade Hope this helps

Doesn't that automatically come with a car if you've got air? Jeeeez i'm surprised porsche didn't charge extra for having a internal combustion engine fitted to these things lol. Hmm interesting the 4.8 have any face lifts besides the actual engine? I wouldn't mind bit of extra grunt but my understanding is before 2006 i will pay £260 for road tax after I will pay £460.Since I do low mileage I couldn't stand giving them any more on top of everything else I pay.

You're welcome
From the last GTS I had, 4.8, the Air was a £1272.00 option and PDCC was £2094.00 I dont think they came together. Both as important as each IMO, without PDCC the roll like a dog TBH
The MKII did have an exterior facelift but you'd need to know what you were looking for, mainly around the lights I think. In terms of road tax, the 4.8 is a million miles better than the 4.5 and also for fuel consumption
If you need anything else let me know

hiya,
Glad to hear your interested in a cayenne s. I am 25 and owned one for the past 1.5 years. Recently sold it however.
If you are concerned about mpg I would stay clear of this as they drink petrol! I used to drive it in and out of London on a regular basis, drove to Monaco very often and it's a great car, very smooth and easy to live with.
Mine didn't have the multi function steering wheel and to be honest has never bothered me...quite nice just having the horn and the tiptronic on the wheel.
Air is a must, the one I purchased had recently had it replaced for ridiculous money which was a plus point. Also I would strongly suggest parking sensors as they aren't the easiest things to reverse park.
Hope this helps and best of luck

I thougth they'd atleast be 18's odd given they come FULL loaded and of course have real performance car pace hmm 5.5 sec to 60 in a tank sounds very interesting ind...But a v8 twin turbo sounds a bit scary maintaince wise. Ahh it never ends lol Will update whenever I take the plunge either way I go! Thanks alot!

Ah,you have discovered the Dark Side that is the Turbo! As you say specced with everything, pace, comfort etc. Petrol consumption not too different to the non turbo,so thats done..People are put off seemingly because its a Turbo/petrol costs etc hence as you have found very much a buyers market.Just be picky, check the history (specifically cooling pipes, make sure ALL gadgets work, and,if its had recent tyres and brakes/service you are good to go) Once you have driven one you will not want 'just' a 4.5 (no offence!)There are also plenty of specialists for servicing at fixed prices should you prefer not to go OPC route.Basically an enormous amount of car for the money.Enjoy.
