July 2012 - Photo Challenge - The Race - Discussion Thread

This is the discussion thread for the monthly challenge competition:
The theme this month is the 'The Race' mainly as I will be watching the Tour De France and going to Classic Le Mans!
However of course it's up to you to interpret that theme any way you want, post your options up on this thread for discussion.
Rules
The photos taken must be your own work
The shot MUST be taken this month, with the closing date being midnight on the last day of the Challenge month
The exif must be posted with your shot
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month
The Challenge for next month should be generic, as not everyone has access to zoom, macro, specialist lenses. It should be shots that everyone is capable of achieving with the bare essentials.
There will be two threads that need starting: The Entries thread to commence same time as Discussion thread. In the Entries thread only one picture should be entered. Any others you wish to discuss should be posted in the Discussion thread.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo. Links to larger versions are permissible.

This thread needs a mod to sticky both it and the entries thread so they don't get lost on a later page. Any mods out there want to do the honours and un-sticky last month's challenge threads and sticky this month's instead?
