Aston DBS opinion
Discussion
Guys, I have had most makes of supercars , and as I am now getting older I really would like a car with an auto box and if poss 2+2, I have had my fill of Porsches and Ferrari, I feel the Astons are still along with Maserati the best looking cars in the world.
But I am nervous of any reliability issues ? Autos seem much more more expensive, why? And how are they to live with on a daily basis? It seems good used autos ate £110+ and manuals from £85k
Seems that the AM forums are a bit weak on the ground

Hi
I came from an Elise into a DBS nearly a year ago now , i needed a touch of luxury instead of a go cart so i went the whole hog and bought the car and spec i wanted. I was worried about the costs involved but so far i havent really had any big problems , just the odd niggle which the dealership sorted out quickly and correctly which was very good (but i have a contingency fund if necessary and i'm still under warranty at the moment anyway).
Generally the difference in price is the options available on the later cars , i.e auto box , B&O , 2+2 seating etc. The early cars were manuals and didnt have some of the later options available to spec.
I have a auto box and love it , i think it suits the car really well but thats personal choice and if you search the forum everyone has an opinion on which is best auto or manual.
The car itself is fabulous and has exceeded my expectations , i love it , classy and reserved when required but a real animal if you want it to be .

Youve clearly had a lot of motors , its the usual just sussing out spec / age / price etc. I think with the new 'vanquish' DBS replacement arriving at the year end the current car will be quite desirable and hold prices up a little , the new car losing the classy elegance a little bit. The DBS is not really a 'cutting edge' supercar so doesnt suffer much from all those types of problems those types of cars have. That said best to get a AM warranty or dont spend all your money in case of problems - these cars are not cheapo to fix .
I rekn there is still depreciation to come on these cars even though they do seem to hold on well , i can see them levelling off at bottom 70k in the next year or so and hopefully not much less.
Oh yes search for the bubbly paint syndrome - most terribly annoying issue which you will need to 'get your head round' about ownership .

Martin you need to break the mental correlation between age and auto boxes. I was driving auto BMWs in my teens and there are lads in their 20s on this forum driving TT2s with a big smile on their face.
Reliability isn't really an issue now - it's niggles that will test you.
They are great cars and you will no doubt be looking for 2009 models at least so any warranty should afford you some peace of mind.
They depreciate like any of the other Astons really (V12V possibly excepted) so you will take a bigger hit than on most of your previous cars

Can't be worse than Ferrari 430 £50k In 3 years, turbo s 50% in 3 years , I like to try and buy run out or used so that the initial depretiation has been done, he'll know what the dealers are making because it seems a 2009 car is about £110k in auto a bit less in manual, but I do want the warranty, question guys please, what sort of niggles did you get, do you feel a 10 year old car will be £30k . The V8 seem about the same as the Porsche 997 money. Where will the DBS be considering its a rarer car. Reliability isn't really an issue now - it's niggles that will test you.

The only similar car I am looking at is the Maserati , by similar cars IMO
Mines a 09 but 10 model 2+2 / B&O / Touchtronic , FSH / 1 owner etc . Got a very good deal and very happy.
My car had a new radiator ( think dealer got a bit excited when he saw a hose leaking - guess they were short of work in the workshop) and a paint blemish - maybe paint beginning to bubble and it was microscopic but hell not my problem . All done no quibble on AM warranty.
Who knows where prices will be in the future - could be 30k , could be 60k , id guess in the middle somewhere for the right car.
Maserati is a nice car - lots more room in the back , but its not in the same league as AM or the DBS

Awesome piece of kit. Perhaps the most competent car that Aston has ever made (there are others that are more charismatic). Mine (a MY11 TT 2+2) does everything that I want. Perhaps 600bhp would be nice but I'm not sure when I'd use it, to be honest.
It had a few niggles initially (wheel vibration) but we got there in the end. 6,000 miles in, it feels solid (touch wood).
I think TT and 2+2 are in more demand but I think manuals will eventually be a better bet. The audience will change when they are 10 years old and the enthusiasts will want the rarer manual.

Nice looking cars
I agree, manuals for the future but TT right now for the users.
Not had any problems except the cost of the first service.
Not a particularly exciting car to drive but looks and sound to die for with plenty of class that nothing else can get close to.
Values will obviously continue to fall but I'm hoping it doesn't age badly....that will help long term values
