Hey guys, ive just bought a tv that has a USB connection to watch movies off in xvid format. Will a normal external hard drive work or does it have to be a portable one or will i need one thats powered etc etc? Will any hard drive work or not?

A portable USB HD should work.

A Desktop HD with a USB connection and external power supply should also work but I personally don't like having the extra power supply.

My TV will play movies from a USB memory stick but won't let me record to it.
