I recently went for some test drives of some shortlisted cars to replace my modified BMW 130i and ended up shortlisting Porsche 911 Gen2 3.6 and Cayman S. Managed to test drive both 911 and Cayman S at my local dealer, which I preferred the Cayman which for me just give a little better feedback and balance. I then started looking at Cayman R's as I assumed that it would be similar to the S but with a bit more of everything from a driver focus point of view and set about looking for one to test drive. I found one which was PDK (double clutch) and although the PDK was good, I just found it less involving than my previous drive in the Cayman S manual but everything else about the R was a little bit better. Shaving 0.2s of a 0-60 time doesn't really mean anything to me and I was annoyed with how the PDK would auto upshift when you reached the limiter which just made it a little "playstation" for me. Found a perfect spec. (not an option man personally, unless performance ones, hence no Nav/leather heated sports seats etc.. ) Cayman R so I put a deposit down a few weeks back and here it is after a long agonising wait!! I just love it!! Should have seen my daughters face when I picked her up from school (surprise)... That was worth it alone for this purchase! Options - 19 inch Black Boxster Spyder Wheel 6 speed manual transmission Automatic air conditioning CD-Radio Porsche CDR-30 Floor mats Lid of storage bin alcantara with Porsche logo ParkAssist (rear) Preparation for mobile phone Rear wiper Sound Package Plus incl. CD storage box Sport Chrono Package Sport shifter Sports exhaust system Universal audio interface Been out a few times today and I'm like a child with the biggest grin driving it!!! Here are some quick pics I took (not the best in bright sunlight)

Congratulations, sure you will love it. Black with black wheels was my second choice after white with black wheels.
Nice spec too; agree about not including all the options you don't need, though mine is fully loaded but it was the price negotiated that decided the deal.
How many miles does it have, i.e. are you still running it in or passed that stage?

Very nice, rather fond of the 'R' and I think you're bang on going for a manual Cayman. Quick question for you, how do you keep your block paving so weed and moss free?

This one is already run in so I'm enjoying it from the start Went for a drive last night with sport button engaged and sports exhaust on and I just love everything about this car!! Perfect pedal placement, perfect throttle response for perfect heel/toe down changes... I really can't find any faults.... perhaps apart from when I need to give more than one person a lift lol God I just love this car!!!

Hehe, lots of "just got my new car", "first Posrche", etc. threads recently. Congratulations, love the specification, most of all the seats! Definitely the best :-)
Also a Cayman owner and I completely agree the car is awesome!

Congratulations. I have a similar car albeit with some differences on options but they do look great in black. If you're not smitten, you will be. Enjoy!

I've not actually pressed the sports button yet if it just adjusted the throttle response then I'll not bother, maximum press on the pedal is maximum regardless. If it changes any other characteristics and noise, I'll use it next time I go out Yep, stunning car to own and drive; love the throttle blip on start up just to tell everyone in the neighbourhood that you're going out Only niggle I've had (other than faults) is the unfamiliarity with how light the front of the car feels; but having said that, I've since checked the tyre pressures which were completely wrong, but haven't tried the car since.

If it changes any other characteristics and noise, I'll use it next time I go out From the Drivers manual - Sport Mode The electronic accelerator pedal reacts sooner....... The rpm limiter characteristic is "harder"...... PSM A sportier car setup is obtained when in Sport or Sport Plus mode is switched on. PSM interventions are later than in Normal mode; the vehicle can be manouvered with greater agility at its performance limits, without the need to dispense of PSM in emergency situations. This helps to achieve optimal laptimes, particularly on race circuits and dry road surface.
