About a week ago i noticed coolant level was about 1cm below min mark. Usually have it an inch above min, so topped up. But during the last week found a yellow residue/gunk in the coolant header tank and on the coolant cap. The car is a S2 111s vvc 04 reg

See pics

Doesnt seem to be any problem with oil or dipstick. Engine idling and running fine and not losing any oil. Temperatures are fine. Coolant level still ok. No smoke or water coming out of exhaust. Hers a pic of the oil cap. Im going to get a sniff test done on monday.

See pics

Does this look ominous or is there any other reason it is like this?

Thanks

My MY04 S2 111S showed the same. Conversation with Dave Andrews and subsequent head off showed no HGF but instead a crack in an oilway allowing oil into coolant. Flush coolant through and see if it repeats. If it is this the car is fine to drive but will need a sleeve inserted into the oilway to fix, which is a head off jobbie I'm afraid.

I hope you've found this in time to make a successful repair or replacement.

Just out of interest, what's the mileage on the head gasket?

Doing a bit of research into S1's at the minute guys..... How much does a decent Indy charge to replace a hgf?

Cheers, EM177
