So what are people running then? Mine are close to replacement so interested in alternatives.

I think Brembos are the default oem choice? I've had Pagids 42's on previous cars which I'm definitely considering. I see fitting red stuff offers a substantial cost saving but I've never really been a fan of EBC. Anybody tried them and/or alternatives that can report back?

Most interested in wear rates/feel etc. Dust and squeal is of secondary consideration.

The pagid site states the RS42's are for the N24. I'm not up on the specs. Do they have the same size callipers as the standard v8?

Thanks in advance

OE pads always used to be Pagid RS 4-2-2, although may have changed to Brembo now...im on my 4th sets of OE pads now

RS42s are my favourite for mixed use too, used many sets over the years in different cars, however be aware they wont have wear sensors so you will have to blank those off

for road use I find the OE more than adequate, most of the Vantage racers run Pagid RS29, but they are too compromised for road use IMO

Thanks Bogie, actually think you may be right, might have got side tracked reading different sites about the brembos - I probably already have the Pagids on now, and tbh, as you say they perform very well.

However I'm still interested to see if anybody has fitted the red stuff. If they perform well enough they potentially offer a £200+ saving over the full set.

I have heard far too many horror stories about the ebc pads to ever consider using them.

Pagid makes special compounds for the various OE manufacturers that you can't get directly from Pagid. How sure are we that the OE stuff is 4-2-2? This is already an expensive pad.

I removed the old rear brake pads on my car a couple of weekends ago and the pads are definitely Pagid RS4-2-2 as it is stamped on there.

Price seems good, I do know that there can be duty to pay in addition to the advertised prices

Any horror stories you hear of the EBC pads are usually not of red stuff, or at least the new ceramic compound. And are from people who have absolutely thrashed them round a track and cooked the brakes.

Used them on my Vantage for a year now and all my previous cars (M cars, Lotus x 4 etc etc) and they have been great - wouldn't use anything else.

In saying that, they take time to bed in.. c500 miles.

Used EBC Yellow on my Boxster for many years and found them fine under all circumstances. Less dust than whatever's on my V8V from new too!

Not a fan of EBC pads. Had a set crack badly on my Caterham where Pagids took the same abuse in their stride.

The Pagids on the Aston are excellent IMO, with the only downside their tendency to squeal if not bedded in properly or used right. Other than cost, I see no real reason to change them.

@LC23 - are you sure these are OE pads? Could they have been retrofitted before you purchased the car?

Thanks, bogie. I have come across your previous posts about the RS4-2-2 while looking.

The only reason I insist is that I have had other cars with OE pagid pads, but they don't correspond to any aftermarket Pagid pad that I can see (or any pad that you can buy directly).

Here is an example:

Those are from an RS4 and it's impossible to know what compound they are if I wanted to get the closest Pagid pad to them.

The pads are so important that I am reluctant to take a punt on something without being sure. I could always get them from the dealer, but would they be marked RS4-2-2?

Where is it that you have been getting them fitted? AM dealer?

I'm thinking of sticking some of these on the rear of my 07 V8V as my OE pads squeal like a pig at the moment. Can anyone elaborate on the 500mile bedding in please. IE do you bed in and then they squeal for another 500 miles...

Yes, i've use them on my Vantage and each time I put them on they sound like bus brakes for about 500 miles. After that they are silent and almost brake dust free.

The first 500 is painful, however you can speed it up by completing the correct bed in procedure of numerous high speed to low speed hard stops (empty motorway recommended) and i've found it helps even more if it's wet. Think I managed to get my last set down to a few hundred miles.

In my experience it's worth the pain however.

When I installed my Porterfield pads I noticed that my OEM pads have the Brembo logo on them.

Another +1 for Porterfield. We have those on our car and according to Hersh it saved his bacon over the weekend!

My rear pads were definitely fitted by the dealer and as I said above, they are marked RS4-2-2.

You can also see (if you look very closely!) Pagid RS4-2-2 written across the top most edge of the top pad in this picture.

Much clearer on the bottom pad on the above.

Well spotted!

Well, well. Brembo and Pagid markings on the same pad.

I am considering this definitive proof* the pads are 4-2-2. Thanks all!
