Car was IVA'd yesterday and passed biggrin

Some people had given "horror" stories of how hard it is to get LS7s through, emissions are hard, noise is virtually impossible.. I'm pleased to say, if you know what you're doing, and obviously do it right, it's absolutely no problem whatsoever. Had the car mapped before IVA, a very nice exhaust made and it breezed through emissions and noise - 96db! Perhaps a little too quiet, but is easier to make it noisy than make it quiet. That's with 2" primarys - no restrictions either wink :

Very docile, only problems we've had were a faulty regulator, replaced that and all is fine.

Now I just need to get it registered...

Thanks to the factory for all my queries and for producing the kit, massive thanks to the 3 Steves:

Steve at AB for always having time to chat and for helping out with last minute custom parts (thanks to Jason too)
Steve Mr Sparky for helping with the electrics, sort out a few gremlins, deal with my changes of direction and make sure all is good
And a huge thanks to Mr SS for all his guidance, patience and skills to help make an absolutely superb car that is pretty much exactly the vision I had 5 years ago when I first started the build.

Couple of pics from the shakedown:

Congratulations on your finished car deadscoob.
The factory puts an Ultima through IVA every couple of weeks or so and when fitted with the standard factory options 700bhp LS7s have all passed the noise limit at Nottingham at around 92db which is 7db under the limit and have also passed emissions without any extra mapping. The standard LS7 powered Ultima passes all the IVA engine regs by a country mile.
If anybody doubts this simply call the Nottingham IVA centre for clarification.

Regards to all,

Well done for passing the IVA. Was the front splitter an issue at all? Also from the pictures you posted it looks as if you have a non factory wing mirror, unless I am mistaken? Was this an issue at all? Any more details much appreciated.

And the big question ....why do builders stray from the proven design and create so many headaches for themselves, especially with the exhaust system? I understand post registration, but surely go with the Factory proven setup and then afterwards you can get the upgrade addiction which is half the fun during the life of owning such a car. Not a Ultima owner or builder myself, but would like to be one day. Any useful advice much appreciated.
Jim.

Being able to do what you want is the beauty of them isn't it? If you want an easy build, the factory sell everything you need, if you have a different vision, then you can do what you like, only limit is the depth of your pockets smile

Re your question on the exhaust - fully compliant, bigger primaries, stainless, arguably less restrictive, easily repackable and less cost than factory mild steel one. If you do it right you can make a nice alternative to the factory one, if you really want. If you do it wrong you have problems with noise and packaging.

The mirrors were designed to improve visibility over standard, which they do exceptionally well - as long as the radius are ok then they won't cause a problem.

thumbup Yes agree, that sums it up, but would also add that a little knowledge, or knowing who to rely on and trust with the expertise is also important.

Thanks for the reply. Look forward to more photos and possible movies in the future. Well done.

Are the rear shocks a factory item or did you explore another route there? It may be the colour in the photos but they look like another performance brand. Sorry for all the questions but I am very impressed with the build. Please pm if not suitable to post reply on here. Jim

Thanks Graham.

Jim, they're Nitrons. I've had Nitrons on a number of cars and think they're the best value quality shock you can buy, just my preference.

Is there a specific model for the Nitron shocks, they look good.
From their website they seem to supply to many car brands..
