I would recommend using the correct sort code and account number, otherwise somebody else gets the money.

I know someone who did this mistakenly with his Santander account. It took over three months for Santander to sort things out. For example, they insisted (quite rightly I suppose) to get the wrong account holder's written approval that they could take the amount out of their account and then pay it to the right account. Probably the major concern was Santander's complete lack of keeping their client informed of what was/was not happening. Of course, it was not the bank's fault but they did appear to be in mo hurry to rectify the mistake.
Good luck!

If you've sent it to an account that doesn't exist then the money will be in suspense and will be returned fairly quickly.
If the account does exist, then your in for a ball ache.
