Hi

Have seen a 2005, Carrera for sale, 45k miles, manual, decent interior spec. Any advice on what I would be expecting to replace within the next couple of years? It's not in an OPC & I've not seen the car yet except for images on pistonheads and dealer website.

A 7 year old car, will the exhaust be needing replaced soon? Will check the service history, etc when I see the vehicle but curious as to what else I should be looking for.

Thanks

Maybe useful putting a link up to the car so that we can have a gander.

I'm not aware of the exhausts on these being fragile? Do a search on here if you really want to know about the engine risks, but be prepared to read a lot of conflicting stuff.

Hartechs buyers guide is very good.

Plenty of stuff .... and it's not an exhaustive list but a few for others to add to .... wink

Wear and tear: Suspension clonks (worn bushes, top mounts or duff shockers), heavy clutch, uneven wear on tyres, discs and pads corroded or worn out etc.

Age related: Aircon not working, battery on way out, hose / pipe leaks etc.

Generic faults: Front radiators rotting out, aircon rads with stone damage, IMS / RMS leaks, bore wear / damage etc.

Loads of info already on here best to do a search, lots to look out for generally best to go for onw with P warranty.

Exhaust will last but mounts could be on way out if car has lived outdoors

slg-- if you are really keen on car after viewing, might pay to get the car inspected by an expert, money well spent.

Not a bad price that, especially with those miles - maybe because the vendor thinks its a 996 as stated in the advert! jester

Yes, I had wondered at that aswell when I saw it on the dealer website. Don't know if their price is too far way though, there's a similar spec in an OPC down Manchester way with 10k miles less but £5k more. With the OPC warranty peace of mind included and the lower mileage it may be a better buy.

Not going to be home for another 2 weeks so will just have to keep an eye on them.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Sounds a better bet to me. 2 year OPC warranty alone would be worth the difference.

Many 55-plate cars are 2006 builds, with the updated IMS and Satnav, best to check the VIN to be sure. smile

agreed - do you need the finance? as 25-30K would get you an S with OPC warranty privately

Don't need the finance but do have a Scirocco to either trade in or sell privately.

Thanks for the message, nice car but I still have to sell mine first.

Cheers

I'm looking for stock at present so could make you a trade bid on your Scirocco, just email the details marcus@autoperform.com I've bought a few cars from guys on this forum, in each case I'm pretty sure they'd agree that it worked for us both.
