Can anyone recommend any? What should I be looking for? Want them to better hear my ipod when on planes and was also thinking I might be able to hear the radio when at the F1 next weekend instead of using ear plugs.

If you're after IEMs try Finlandias sticky at the top of this forum  I can highly recommend some Westone UM3x but it depends on your budget. Before that I had UM2 and they're also good and cheaper too. IEMs can give you more noise isolation than noise cancelling types imo.
