First steam at Penrhyn Quarry Railway in 50yrs
Discussion
For all the narrow gauge enthusiasts on here.
I was proud to be part of the first open day at Penrhyn Quarry Railway in Felin Fawr on Tuesday, 24th of July. This was a low key event, but managed to draw a steady stream of visitors through the day by word of mouth.
The open day coincided with the exact same day 50 years ago that the last steam loco officially ran on the line and the historical engines sold off for scrap or to collectors around the world, happily many have now returned back to the UK.
The lads at Felin Fawr Cyf had done a great job in laying a small part of track in preparation for the event and Bressingham Museum supplied an ex Penrhyn loco in the form of "George Sholto" to run the line for the day to the small gathering of locals who had come to see this historical event.
Here are a few of my own photos and a link to the website for more info.

Bizarre that they should bring a loco from Bressingham when there are four ex-Penrhyn locos in full working order 20 miles down the road
If they'd asked me I'm sure I'd have lent them one!
Nevertheless - congratulations to all concerned. I'll be at Penrhyn Castle with Lilla and Hugh Napier in steam this weekend if anyone wants to pop in.

Wow, memories... some of my relatives live up the road from there, and I wouldn't like to try guessing how many times I've driven/walked over the bridge in the background of your second photo. Spent a LOT of happy times in that part of Wales as a child, exploring the old quarry workings and walking the trackbeds. I heard about them starting restoration efforts here a while ago, so I'm really pleased to see it's all come together now - thanks for sharing your pics!
