I arranged to see the attached car today. I travelled 150 miles to our appointment only for the seller to go radio silent on email and phone. He eventually switched his phone off. Not sure what his game is, but I suspect it's a fake listing. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4084241.htm

Either way, you must have been fuming having wasted your time ... I know I would be!

Was the appointment not at the home location where the car is parked/pictured?

Seller has finally emailed. He went to the cinema so couldn't make our appointment (which he now denies we even made).
Well, that's all ok then!!

Why is buying a selling privately such a PITA! Opposite to you I've had 2 people this weekend call with "definitely coming" an Denver to be heard of again plus I had the same from a guy last weekend, both times I've adjusted my plans to suit and they don't even have the curtesy to cancel

Marcus obviously very upset and I have apologised many times for the "misunderstanding". But this is the exact sequence of events and I have a full set of emails to prove it:
1) On 26 July I sent email: "we'll be home from 3pm on saturday if that works for you" 2) On 27 July Marcus replies: "Trying to shuffle some things on Saturday to come and view at 3pm. Whereabouts in London are you?" I.e. he was trying to make it but there was no confirmation he was definitely coming. 3) On 27 July I reply telling him I am in North London 4) No other correspondance confirming or otherwise if Marcus will be coming. 5) Until Marcus calls on Saturday 28 July sometime after 12pm to inform me he is coming giving me less than 3 hours of notice. My phone was on silent as I was in the cinema from 12pm. 6) Marcus does not receive a response from me and still proceeds to drive the "150" miles.
I am really sorry for your inconvenience and in hindsight should have asked you to confirm before you came to ensure I was in. I only said I was in cinema to explain why phone was off, and why it continued to be off.
I accept any responsibility for this and can only apologise, but also feel that before I was to visit someone's house I would let them know I am coming for sure and ensure they are in before making the trip.
Trial by forumites is the standard for such types of post I know and assume people will make their feelings known and no doubt will continue to hear the "c**t" types of comments and the response from Marcus and his particular phraseology.
If this is the way cars are sold and people are vilified. I think will choose to sell my car elsewhere and learn my lesson for being much more on-the-ball with responses and make sure I am at home just in case people who don't confirm they are coming do come.

Didn't give it all as as far as I was aware the person had not fully confirmed was coming. And not in the habit of giving out my address to someone on the web on the off chance they might need to pop round. dadofbud said: Is this how it's done now then ? just out of interest why did he not give all the post code, are they worried to will arrive in the dead of night and steal it ?

And one final time ... I unreservedly apologise for this situation. And if pistonheaders truly believe this is totally my responsibility, will be happy to take the advert off the pistonheads website and either keep the car or seek to sell elsewhere.

I am apologizing simply because I completely understand how Marcus feels as despite the circumstances I was not the one who "wasted" several valuable hours on a Saturday. But thank you 911god for your comment. 911god said: Hmmm i think hes apologised enough guys and clearly is a genuine guys whos made a genuine mistake. God knows ive made enough! I started the thread when I honestly believed your advert was fake. I couldn't understand why you wouldn't reply to email or answer the phone, and then switch it off. I believe we had an appointment, and feel you do as well. Let's write it off as a bad experience and move on.

Fair play for coming on here to apologise, all sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Good luck with the sale.
