Ok....so I started looking at getting either a DBS / Ferrari Cali / V12V a few months ago, did the Aston factory tour, test drove a couple things, and then hit a really busy time with work where I didn't really have time to take the final plunge.
Things are chilling out a bit now so I'd like to make a choice soon....however....they're ALL nice!
One of the questions I had in my head is if it's worth stretching to a '12 model year DBS with the better sat nav, wipers, glass buttons (which combined makes it a nicer car) or if I'd be better off saving what seems likely to be a considerable sum on an earlier DBS.
The '12 model year DBS's all seem to be around £128k+ ......on the other hand, there are some lovely 10-11 plate DBS's for £20k less than that.
Does anyone think the 12 yr model changes will mean it retains better value than the old ones, or is it just worth getting a better price on a pre-12 model? The 12 is a better place to sit, and I prefer the buttons....but stepping back a bit and gaining a little perspective, £20k would buy you a brand new Focus ST, so it a huge amount of money to pay for a better sat nav and nicer buttons!
If you were buying a DBS now, knowing the Vanquish is coming, what would you opt for?

Manual's are more exciting (I found the V12V a more exciting drive), but realistically I'd like to take it on a European road trip and will be doing some commuting in it....so TT makes more sense.

Reason I ask is that all the early cars were manual, so you can get a 2009 10k mile model for £95k like this http://www.stratstone.com/vehicleprinting.aspx?reg...with essentially the same spec as a 2011 car, minus B&O sound As you say, a few additions in 2012 but Garmin is the only spec dif IMO which might sway you and I know some on here have very strong opinions on the earlier sat nav ( I think it's fine but others disagree) but even so, I don't think the spec differences are sufficient on their own to make you spend significantly more for a later car.

The spec differences are nice .....but just not worth £20k+ to me. Do you think they will be valued come resale time? I will likely only have the car a year, so would prefer not to lose a ton of money ha!

Simples then - if you are bothered about not losing a ton of money then the older car that has already lost more will be the better choice.

Everyone in agreement PH shock !
Incidentally, unlike DB9, there have been no upgrades to performance over the life of DBS

So it basically goes like this?
2008-10: 700w sound system, lots of manuals 2010-12: mostly TT, B&O sound system 2012: garmin sat nav, better wipers and buttons.
And that's it?

Unless youve got money to burn , buy a slightly older car (less depreciation) with the spec you want , the differences in the cars options over its lifespan has been minimal so sort out what you want and save a few quid. The prices are still on the slide with more to go (so bear that in mind) , and will probably drop further with the vanquish arriving.

The old Vanquish's seem to keep their value well - the DBS has now hit £80k at the bottom end....how much lower could it go?

Indeed with Vanquish on the market by the time you sell all DBS prices will be bound to take a bit of a drop. On that basis I would suggest you re-evaluate the V12V, which is already probably the best in the range at holding its value will be far less affected by Vanquish production. Therefore I conclude that what you need is an early V12V.

Who knows how low they will go ..... i suspect they will goto 60k and sit there for a while. It will be interesting to see if DBS prices firm up even with the release of the Vanquish , seems to me the DBS shape is potentially more desirable and maybe a modern classic in the making , the Vanquish however maybe newer but is it desirable? That should get this thread moving

And there are manual 2009 cars with B&O and with all that saved money you can personalise it And I updated my HDD Sat Nav to the latest spec for less than a good bottle of Red and it gets me to where I want to go on the very rare occasion I use it

Look around cause there's some good and bad about! I looked at loads before I found mine but with ref the prices and future I paid £102k 11 months ago and am now being offer 74k px! I'm looking at selling mine but will be happy to get £85k so I think with an Aston you just have to accept that your going to loose some money! But I've got to say the DBS is a great car and you'll enjoy it whatever you choose.
I wanted B&O but couldn't find one with the wheels etc as well as B&O but the standard stereo is amazing!
Good luck!
