Good morning all... It has been a year or so since I last posted on this forum, since I sold my last Monaro VXR. It is likely that there are now a great deal of new members on here and not many left of the ones that I previously knew. However, I could do with some recommendations or advice from you all..... I couldn't resist the V8 bug any longer and have re-joined the V8 fold. Not in what would have been my third Monaro VXR though. I now own a Chryslet 300C SRT-8 6.1 V8 Hemi. I currently use our local Dodge/Chrysler dealership to service our other Dodge family car which is less exotic. However, I really don't want to go down the route of having the same stealership service the SRT-8 - as quite frankly, they probably don't know the first thing about the vehicle. I have already been in touch with The Fish and they cannot help with the servicing of this vehicle - so I just wondered if anyone knows of or can recommend another specialist in the Midlands area that deals with MOPAR based vehicles, both old or new, which would do a good job in the general servicing and maintenance work on my vehicle. I can't seem to find any at all via the trusty old Google! Thank you in advance. Kyle ;-p

I am located in Nottingham, so ideally looking for a specialist in the Midlands/East Midlands. I have heard good things about AAS before though.

From an ex-300C SRT8 owner, welcome back to V8 ownership! Have you got any tuning plans for it yet? A Diablo Predator is an absolute must!!

You may have some good advice for me then. No tuning plans for her yet... as it is my daily driver. Got around to dropping in a Green Cotton panel air filter the other day and am really thinking of upgrading the exhaust system. My last Monaro VXR was cammed with headers and full Wortec exhaust system and sounded wild. The SRT-8 has been really toned down in the exhaust note department. The exhaust seems to flow very well, however, it is just very quiet (to suit the executive looks I think). However, I am very tempted with a Corsa Performance USA Xtreme CAT-back exhaust system... however, cannot find a UK distributer/importer for them... only a European one in Germany, and the total price is cringeworthy for a CAT-back! I have also looked into the Diablo Predator hand held tuner, heard good things about them for the SRT-8. But not exactly sure what you can do with it on the 300C SRT-8. Did you have one and rate it? What can you do with it?!? I have also read about pulling Fuse 11 from time to time to reset the "learning transmission". Not done this yet and not sure if this has ever been done yet on my car, but I have heard it is good to do every so often. I am currently averaging about 21 MPG in her on mixed driving.

The Corsa is definitely the exhaust to go for, but as you say, has an eye watering price! I had a Magnaflow cat back on mine but with the addition of a pair of cutouts to make it really loud! I had a K&N CAI, Predator and the Magnaflow on mine and dyno'd 379RWHP, my current VXR8 with a Wortec CAI and remap only managed 352RWHP. The Predator is good for about 40BHP when used with a good CAI and with a little extra remote tuning by a guy called Johan in the states will push just on 500BHP and will see you crack 60 in 4 seconds, my dyno of 379RWHP was before Johan remotely tuned it, and it was massively better after he did that. The Predator also massively changes the gearbox to provide neck snapping gear changes!! You can also read fault codes (and clear them), change the fan settings (handy if you fit a 180c thermostat, and a whole host of other things! Power wise the VXR8 simply does not compete with the 6.1 Hemi when tuned with a Predator and a good CAI unless you start changing things like the cam etc on the VXR8 (excluding supercharging of course on both). However, the VXR8 with a switchable Wortec simply blows the SRT8 away for sound, that's not to say the Hemi doesn't sound great on WOT! Best advice is to sign up on 300cforums.com, there is a European section and most of the guys there know me well. If you get a Predator and want some advice on how to contact Johan to get a custom tune done remotely drop me an email via here and I'll be happy to help you out, likewise if you want any more info on the 300C SRT8 let me know, I ran mine for over two years and without doubt it was the most reliable car I've ever had! Mine was the black one in the middle.................. I regret selling it early last year, I had a year of hell with a brand new Citroen which has led me to my current VXR8, but if I could turn the clock back.......................... Stef

Stef Cheers for all of that Stefan. It appears that the Predator has now been discontinued by Diablosport and has now been replaced by their Trinity unit, which may be better? I think they still have very limited stock of the older Predator unit in at various places around the USA. That's a nice looking SRT-8 you had there. Very very similar to mine. Mine is black, black grill and have just had the SRT forged wheels re-furbished and powder coated in gloss black to match - that really sets the car off for sure. I may treat myself to the Corsa system as it does sound excellent - especially as it is only a CAT-back. I had thought about a CAI - however, rather than the K&N type, I had thought about the Volant cold air box type - not sure. I will PM you with my e-mail address mate.

Mark That's a tad harsh. What happened... I became a father and needed more doors! I suppose you either love the look of them or hate the look of them. They can be a bit Marmite, like some other cars, such as the VXR8 - i've never been keen on those, but respect them and can understand why some people do love the look of them. It all boils down to personal preference I suppose. The Monaro is a design that is hard not to like though. I personally love the look of the 300C SRT-8, I can't fault it. To be totally honest, I actually prefer it to the Monaro's that I have had - not necessarily in the looks department, but as an all rounder. It is definitely quicker off of the mark, despite it being heavier. SRT did a great job on tuning the 300C.

I used to get loads of people on here slating mine when I had it and it cropped up in a thread, but most comments were from people who had never sat in one, let alone driven an SRT8. The SRT8 compared to a standard diesel 300C is like chalk and cheese! SRT did a fantastic job withe the 300C, it handled well (much better than my VXR8) and went like a rocket when fettled slightly. OK, inside was a bit plastic and typical American, but, no different than my VXR8. I think my VXR8 just edges it in mean looks area, but they are both very similar cars in most respects. If my VXR8 ever lets me down big style I wouldn't hesitate going back to an SRT8 and putting a blower on it, the 6.1 Hemi V8 is an amazing engine and a mile away from the 5.7 it was based on. Stef

Bit like the Australians really, here for life. No additions, three's enough, but just revving myself up to get the stroker fitted. Hope the family is good Kyle. I'm not far away so might catch up some time, but really busy with work still.
