Hi folks

As some of you are aware I am trying to sell my DB9 Volante.

I had her on SoR at an outfit on the south coast for a while which was a poor experience and yielding nothing except tumbling prices and loads of PITA.

I now have her for sale through another garage more local to me but again the market seems slow. We have put her together with a warranty to see if that helps plus the garage can arrange finance too if required.

She is relatively high mileage (54k for a 56 plate) however is in pretty good knick (if I say so myself smile ) She is on a SORN, untaxed and uninsured. She has MOT until October. As she is at a garage she is covered by their insurance, trade plates etc.

So I'm after suggestions as to how to proceed if possible. I could do with selling her sharpish as we are in the process of selling our house and moving.

Also does anyne have access to the trade price guides who could email me some info regarding her current value?

Is it worth my while contacting specialists or dealers to see if they would be interested? Is Ebay worth a punt?

Any sensible suggestions would be welcome smile

Cheers

There are no DB9 Volantes currently for sale on the PH classfieds so why not put it there too. Also sent you a PM.

ETA: Hmm, now I see loads for sale! Oh well smile

It's a mystery, your car is lovely and well priced - the only thing I can think of is mileage scaring people away, rather stupidly.

The old adage, 'if it's not selling, it's too expensive' probably holds here sadly. If its cheap enough, it'll go, supply and demand.

Like an 80k mile Vantage for sub-25k, there's always someone to take a punt.

Heya. I remember you sending me the piccies and so on. It certainly looks like a lovely car, well maintained and so on. If I'm honest, I do think people are being put off by the mileage and the lack of a full AM service history. I know it was serviced by DMS but many people buying a car like this seem to be sticklers for a full AMSH. I think if it was high mileage but looked after by a main dealer then that would placate your average-jo buyer. Unfortunately, there's a quite a lot of choice and even at this time of year the market seems to be quite slow.

For what its worth... I have always found, if you are prepared to do the leg work (via phone and email) around all the main A.M. and good specialist dealers, you can end up with a price near private money without the hassles involved with a private sale or SOR. The only trouble is the best paying dealer varies each time (no doubt due to recent sales, customer demand etc), so you always have to do the full phone around... your mileage may be a handicap, but it's worth the trudge if you haven't done this yet smile.

Excellent advice as ever Grant.

I remember Mikey K had to travel from Cheshire to Exeter for the best deal on his V8VSR - deals can come in the unlikeliest of places smile

I think if a dealer was interested then they would be knocking it out at 42 to 44k which means your not going to be offered more than 36k probably less.

All I can say is the Dealers do not give a monkies on p/x - I'm offered the same price regardless of my 2 Dealer and 1 DMS stamps.

Some private buyers may think differently though smile

I think Mr Jockman is on the money here.

Many private buyers will be looking for a full AM service record.

If I was looking for a used AM privately, I would be looking for FAMSH and lower mileage. Were DMS AM approved?

Well as an open top car owner I have to say this year I have hardly used it (with the lid down) as the weather has been somewhat less than ideal.

Open top car sales are driven by weather. Also private sale means you have to advertise so get it on PH for starters and Autotrader as well with possibly an eBay classified ad, that will give you maximum exposure. You have a good write up in your profile so that is a good start for an advert, combine that with good photos and you are away.

As for FAMSH being a must I would think if the buyer thinks this then they go along to a dealer and get promises of warranty and dealer backup. A private buyer of this kind of car is going to be a bit more savvy.

As for the price this can only be derived from what the market is doing now. There is no point in competing with a dealer so do your research as to where your car should be positioned.

ETA

You are well below current offerings from AM Dealers so no problem there. Noticed the ad on PH from the dealer not the best write up IMHO put down the service history (mileage, dates, who with) and any additional work done i.e. have the brakes been done lately, what are the tyre tread depths. I looked for it on Autotrader and it isn't there, it is the No. 1 place to sell a car in the UK with eBay chasing it. PH is for more enthusiast drivers (or their mates who tell them about it).

Why would it matterconfused

Car isn't under warranty..... As long as its been serviced on time by either AM or a recognised specialist, I don't see an issue.
