Afternoon all, looking at a one owner 355 and it has the following Main Dealer Service History.

12.05.98 3271 miles
28.04.99 6138 miles
06.09.00 9869 miles
01.03.06 10765 miles
16.02.10 11441 miles
07.03.12 12959 miles

The service this year was a major one and included cambelts. What's the general thoughts? Some big gaps in there aren't there? Would you buy it with that history? If I did get it I would get annual services done. Just wondering if I try and sell in two years if it would be a major issue. Car is very original and mint condition. Is at specialist with a very good reputuation. Dont want to name them at this stage.

I'm no expert but that history wouldn't bother me too much as long as there was evidence that it was cared for. That's more than just regular servicing and the condition of the car at the moment would be a key indicator here. You could look at the 00 to 06 gap and say that's huge but they only did 900 or so miles in that time so it's entirely possible it was nicely stored for that period and it was serviced when it came out. Personally, I'd look past the stamps in the book and focus on the state of the car and how it was treated. Get an independent pre-purchase inspection and take it from there.

Personally that wouldn't bother me. Ferrari owners in my option are a bit of a nightmare and at times quite hysterical when it comes to service history (I can say that as I am a Ferrari owner tongue out ). You often read on here that someone is looking at a 30 year old Ferrari but it's missed a service in 1994 and then someone comes along and tells them it's probably s dog of a car, the fact it hasn't been service properly means its probably not been cared for! Infant it's probably been clocked and written off etc wink

I think people often forget that for a lot of people these cars.are toys that spend most of their lives tucked away in a garage. Look at the condition of the car as that is in my opinion the most important thing.

Good luck with your search! The 355 really is a cracking car!

Wouldn't bother me but I see trouble ahead moving it on... It's condition today that matters but as said above a Fcar with incomplete history could be difficult to sell on for proper money

Why service a car that's only done a handfull of miles? I'd be more concerned about whether it has a full MoT record and what advisories have been logged. I'd also be concerned about the tyres if its still on the originals - 15 year old rubber, hmmmm!!!

well it wouldn't bother me......

BUT

It bothers you enough to open a thread and ask this question, so expect a similar thread when you plan to move it on, from someone like yourself.......

Good luck whatever you do.

I would check the condition of the seats ( there should be no wear at that milage) / general condition of the car + every old mot.

Ferraris have a nasty habit of not quite showing the right miles.

Oh and it will be a bugger to re sell hope its priced accordingly

Hi Pete wavey hope you are well? I presume the GT3 has now gone then?
I'm not an expert on 355s but with gaps like that in the history I'd expect the service after the lay up to have been a bit more comprehensive than a standard one, things like seals, tyres etc degrade over time as the rubber dries out (I guess unless otherwise perfectly stored), do any invoices back up additional works? A comprehensive history file to me is everything above and beyond a stamp in a service book so I'd want to see fastidious maintenance and no advisories left for next time. I looked at a 355 last year with just such a history and even now still kick my own butt for turning it down (decided to keep the TVR instead - the 355 was my perfect spec of a Rosso Nero GTS, or black targa to the layman smile).

It wouldnt bother me.

However, I have been through the process of selling a F355 spider privately.

Despite it having an extremely comprehensive service history, all listed on excel with every receipt etc. I still got the anal brigade freaking out it had more than 2 owners or a tax disc was missing from 1997 etc.

I've owned and maintained mine for over 4 years now.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, that service history doesn't tell you anything. It does however imply 2 things to me.
1. Its v low mileage for an old car. If you intend to drive it, it will depreciate quite a bit I expect.
2. the fact its such low mileage means that there will likely be a whole host of things that need sorting out if you actually intend to use it.

So, in my mind it boils down to what you want it for. Something to look at for 2 years? Sounds perfect. Something to drive and enjoy for 2 years? I'd look elsewhere, preferably for higher mileage with a stack of receipts, and focus primarily on the recent work.

Just my 2c

Afternoon all, thanks for the replies, Waiting back for some more info on what exactly has been done and when from the dealer. I would probably do about 3-5k in a period of 2-3 years in it.

Hi Zippee, yep sold the GT3 RS in March, had a great 18 months with it but fancied a change. Glad to hear the TVR is still going strong.

Hello Drew, probably wouldn't use it as hard as you do your 355! Was watching the Highland Tour 2010 dvd you made a few weeks back, thats what started this 355 itch, yours on full song with the Capristo valves full open sounds beautiful!

Pete101, you know I like to take my time with things!
