anyone got any ideas as what may be wrong with my elise?
cleaned all usual sensor connections swapped the camshaft sensor but it still hits the limiter at 5800 rather than the 7500 it should get to

I don't know about the S1, but the S2 111S limited the revs when its cold, so it might be as simple as a failed temperature sensor?

This happened to my MGF VVC about 4 years ago. It turned out to be plug to the VVC that had not been reconnected properly. It cost £70 to diagnose and fix, much to my relief.
I have not idea where you are located by Summit MG in Maidenhead really know their VVC's, so much so in fact that I take my S1 111S back each time something needs sorting.
