When the 991RS gets released and clocks the ring in something silly like 15 seconds quicker than anything previous, what will happen to some of these barking RS4.0 prices ? And will the RS3.8 values take a little knock as well ?
Will the 4.0 always be a massive jump on from the RS3.8 in value or one day will they merge and the 4 litre car is just one increment onwards, just like the RS3.8 is one step on from the gen 2 GT3 ?

The RS4.0 will always be 'the best of the best"( of the generation), whats sad is no one will bother to drive them for fear of depreciation. That is all.

I'd love for the 3.8 RS to fall a little closer to my reach. In reality though, I'd simply rather (and will) make my little software business more profitable, and work to be able to afford an 3.8 at it's not altogether unreasonably current cost. Ideologically the perfect car. Sod the posers, it's all about motorsport

Think low production numbers will prop up 4.0 prices. But ff the 991 GT3 posts good numbers, think it will squeeze 4.0 prices a bit at least as it's new enough to be in the purview of the shiny shiny brigade and ultimately it will be the last gen car - though that will probably have to wait for the 991 RS, whenever that is due.
Be interesting to see what happens if the 991 is PDK only. Don't think it'll make much difference to residuals initially. But 20 years from now, the 4.0's status as the last manual GT3 on top of all its other attractions could be significant.
I know mags and fans make a big noise about how much better the 4.0 is compared with the 3.8. But suspect that 20 years will put 200ccs, 50-odd horsepower and some chassis tweaks into context.
ANyway, will be interesting to see what happens!

In what way is the 4.0 better than the 3.8 ? Obviously more lower down but I am sceptical that the difference is particularly large.

The 4.0RS is the swansong Mezger engine and for that reason it will always be worth more. However, I do see them dropping from the £200k they are currently.

With only 31 licensed registered GT3 RS 4.0 in the UK, it's always going to be a very rare car and I'm sure will be a classic in the future.
I'm sure the bubble will burst at some time and prices will drop a little but still think it will remain high even after the 991 GT3 RS arrives

They'll always command a premium over the 3.8, the gap will probably close a bit though.
Are the 997.1 RSs dropping off a bit? Noticed quite a few 'cheap' ones on the market lately.

I saw a LHD Swiss registered one up near me (east of York) a week last Saturday. He gave it some beans as he shot passed me, absolutely stunning. Sorry for the poor iPhone shot, he was moving too quickly.

If it is the car we hope it will be and has a manual option, it will hit the values of the later cars but perhaps not the 996 Mk1 and 996RS. However, if the car is excessively digital with PDK only and is perceived to have lost too many layers of feel etc, the older cars could rise!! There is also the 'Mezger' effect too. I am sure we will all be following developments with interest! MTR

I'm keeping my Mezger GT3 for those very reasons. Whatever else happens it'll have electric steering for sure. Some won't like it.

Christ, you got overtaken by a f king 911!! Was it really worth putting yourself and other road users at risk? Let's all be thankful that you didn't see him in nose to tail traffic on the A1 where you could have done some real harm.

Number 420 LHD is for sale in Dubai right now, asking roughly £157k for it. 1,800km.
Funny thing is, when the next GT3 comes out, I see a few of these coming on the market here at good money - not a big market for man transmission cars here.

Limited supply and (probably) a reasonable demand once prices drop closer to "list" should see to long term prices. There is no way the 991 will be as focused ...

Agree except I don't that effect will be immediate. Think even the 4.0 is bough by many as a trinket - such a small market at that end - and it will be an outmoded, slower trinket when the 991 RS appears. There was a thread re PDK on the 991 GT3 a while back - was amazed how many people, including existing owners, who were keen on PDK. In the long run, think PDK-only if it happens will boost sales of pre-PDK only but not straight away.

Let me just correct you there ... it was a 4.0 RS, not just a 911. Well as you have already identified from the photo, it was taken on stretch of road which was very quiet, not on nose to tail traffic otherwise I wouldn't have taken it .. but that thought probably never crossed your mind hey? Now, get back in your box you self-righteous prat.
