The mileage isn't high for a 20+ year old car (and will be genuine!) and the fact the owner has had it 11 years and had the rebuild done over 20,000 miles ago suggests that he has been prepared to spend the money to look after it properly. An inspection's a good idea of course, but on the face of it that could be a very good value car.

Agree with this ^
You need to take a look and find out who carried out the major work i.e. engine rebuild. Could be a bargain at £10K or just another pile of junk. Most are unfortunately the latter.

My 964 had about 180k on it when I sold it - and had previously had top end rebuild at 120k. Wouldn't put me off if it had been well maintained.

Thanks for the advice.

Will look at a few more next week and make a decision. By the way, I believe the work done by Jaz so should be decent.

These cars are like the Forth Bridge, they always need maintenance of some sort. At 180k the car could be near perfect if its been owned by a fastidious owner, but it could also be a nail.

I paid top end for mine 85k miles and since I've had it its had:
Oil lines done
Engine mounts
Speakers shot and replaced

This is my list of jobs
Suspension KW
Overhaul gear linkage
Floorboards driver side
Upgrade rear brakes to 4 pots & new bias valve
Wheel Spacers and longer studs
New Gauge faces
Carpets within 12 months
Refurb door surrounds & door handles
Replace sill and door rubbers
Refurb Club Sport steering wheel

And suddenly the one at 28k at jzm starts to look better and better value!

It seems to be the case that buying one of these you do have to be very enthusiastic and know quite a bit about the car. Even perhaps to the stage of bein able to do a few jobs yourself. Part of the ownership experience I guess.

That car at JZM will be awesome when it's ready with new interior etc. 9k on an engine rebuild, he never held back there!

I was given a lift to the station in that 964 the day it arrived at JZM. The colour coded interior definately needed changing but the engine sounded rather nice !!

Good that's encouraging for my new purchase. Btw what grade oil am I supposed to be running it on. My 993 I ran on 5/40 or maybe it was 10/40 but I'm thinking something thicker for the 964?

I see what you mean, but the picture isn't good enough resolution to confirm. Could be just a reflection and probably is. I usually ask the seller for more detailed hi-res pics if I'm interested in a car.

Yep I think it does have a couple of rust bubbles.

Hi Adam,

Sorry to hear the 964 has left your garage! Looks stunning in the photos and from talking to the RPM boys sounds like a great deal of work was done.

Whilst it seems top dollar for a 964, IMO it's a good price for the amount of work done - someone will get a great car with nothing to do!! Can't say that about many 964s. Before I bought my red one, I put in an offer on the silver 964 JZM had in last summer priced at £28k+ - they didn't take it and it sold 2 weeks later for the full asking price... Awesome cars if you get a good'un!

All the best

RPM Porsche in Cheddington. The car was meant to be a keeper and spent a lot of money on making sure that everything was sorted with the engine, upgraded studs etc. It pulls like a train and when it was dynoed it was pushing out around 260-270hp
Huge Shame u sold it then. The G pipe make it sound good? How much did they give u for it if u don't mind me asking? PM me if u like. Suspension all done?

I have G Pipe on mine and it sounds good, not too aggressive, but a nice throaty burble all the same. I do hanker after a little more 'fruit' occasionally when pressing on, but in the main it's a good compromise.

Cheers
