HID Headlight Kit
Discussion
I have 987 without xenons, huge mistake I know.
It appears my only option is to upgrade to HID, heard some horror stories about these not working and being a waste of time and money.
I have found a kit that alleges it's canbus friendly as I believe that many kits don't interface with the canbus and this is the problem.
Has anyone had any success with with this conversion and could recommend a suitable kit.
Thanks
Bob

Hi,
You need self leveling and headlamp wash for HID lamps... So all aftermarket kits will fail MOT.

I have them fitted on mine and was recently told they could possibly be an mot failure mot due in oct so I'll find out then may be worth checking befor you buy has something to do with no self levelling lights ?
I read something along these lines, so yesterday I went to my local MOT station, and the tester is a biker and told me that he had them fitted to his bike, but advised me not to buy cheap and do the research.Anyway his words of wisdom, the regulation should have changed in Feb of this year but they were never implemented, and you are right they refer to self-leveling and or headlamp washers.
His comment to me was until implemented otherwise he's not going to fail any car that comes in with HID kit fitted as long as it's has no more than 6000k bulbs, they have the correct beam pattern and the headlamps are clean and therfore don't deflect light that will cause a nuisance or danger to other road users. He did add that owners can save themselves a lot of unwanted attention by having their beam patterns / height levels checked after fitting HID, which makes sense to me.

What about the 981? Some of those leave the factory with no washers and HID now. You need self leveling and headlamp wash for HID lamps... So all aftermarket kits will fail MOT.

Couldn't tell you how accurate that is, though.

Then technically the should fail, much like Mitubishi Evos and Integras have been since the new regs..Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

ks - mine was tested through an OPC and the tester was quite satisfied that the regs do not specify an immediate failure unless badly adjusted or other problem.
