I have 987 without xenons, huge mistake I know.
It appears my only option is to upgrade to HID, heard some horror stories about these not working and being a waste of time and money.
I have found a kit that alleges it's canbus friendly as I believe that many kits don't interface with the canbus and this is the problem.
Has anyone had any success with with this conversion and could recommend a suitable kit.
Thanks
Bob

I've had a hids-direct conversion on my 04 GT3 for 4 years without any problems. Go for the 4300K version for the best OEM look (and they're the brightest light too).

Unless the tester turns a blind eye to them it will fail the MOT the way I understand it.
I want to fit some to mine as the standard lamps are awful. They look easy enough to fit so happy to swap the originals back on for the MOT.
Anyone here put them in a 964?

Anyone here put them in a 964? go and get the car tested at Byfleet OPC - see above post. I was led to believe this but the tester said that all the talk was inaccurate - June 2012 btw.

I read something along these lines, so yesterday I went to my local MOT station, and the tester is a biker and told me that he had them fitted to his bike, but advised me not to buy cheap and do the research. Anyway his words of wisdom, the regulation should have changed in Feb of this year but they were never implemented, and you are right they refer to self-leveling and or headlamp washers. His comment to me was until implemented otherwise he's not going to fail any car that comes in with HID kit fitted as long as it's has no more than 6000k bulbs, they have the correct beam pattern and the headlamps are clean and therfore don't deflect light that will cause a nuisance or danger to other road users. He did add that owners can save themselves a lot of unwanted attention by having their beam patterns / height levels checked after fitting HID, which makes sense to me.

On another thread on here re the 981 lights, it was said that those that come without the washer have a lower light output that falls below the requirement for washers. Couldn't tell you how accurate that is, though. Here - from page 5 onwards.. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Plenty of cars tthat "should fail" according to the Internet, get passed every day. The new rules are hardly clear. Too bad they didn't have the balls to actually change the lighting laws.
