As per title without paying a fortune for sports exhaust how can I make my boxster sound sportier?

Im quite happy with performance but coming from TVR's I crave more sound.

I've done de snorkel which improved induction noise but crave meaty exhaust sound.

See my post on the poverty pork thread. You might also consider a Dansk silencer. I think they grade their exhausts at 3 sound levels. They are about £500 a pop though.

If you want mental, and I do mean mental, then get a Tubi.

I had one on my Cayman S, did a tunnel run trip to Paris with the guys from here, and not much was louder in the tunnels inc TVRs/Ferrari etc. makes it sound truly exotic.

Not for the faint of heart, but fantastic if you want loud.

Didn't he want suggestions that weren't 'replace the standard exhaust with a sports enhaust', specifically options that were less expensive?

What you want is this:

Hayward and Scott do it, costs about 400 I believe. Just adds some bypass pipes to your existing exhaust.

It's Carnewal as mentioned above that are best known for adding the bypass pipes to Box, er, boxes.

I'm in two minds about whether a loud back box actually improves things. You then have a the noise dominated by the back box to the detriment of induction and pure mechanical noises. It'll certainly be louder, but that's not necessarily better when there are lots of lovely noises on offer...

you wont get a TVR sound out of a boxster ...well not unless you fit a straight through exhaust ..TVRs have a sound of their own .. though the dansk on my old 3.2s did sound better than most boxsters. Though not as good as my 5.0 Chim ..

Not sure were the cats are on the Boxster of if they are integrated into the silencers. However you could buy some custom build exhaust parts from places like Jetex or eBay and fab up a system at home. It's really not all that hard on most cars.

Either that or have a shop around some custom exhaust places and see what sort of money it'll cost, might well be worth telling them the dimensions and design you want rather than the car. Far too easy for places to add "Porsche tax" or the like and turn a £300 exhaust into £500 just because...

It's a 2001 986 model featured in poverty pork thread so reluctant to spend big bucks on sports exhaust systems.
