Hi,
I am in the process of fitting a cooler to my Quaiff gearbox. I am using an electric low pressure pump and a mechanical oil stat that fits inbetween the pump and the cooler rad.
What do i do with the breather on top of the gbox, will oil be forced out of it even under low pressure?
Martin.

You still need breather otherwise seals will blow. you should have an in and an out connection low down on the box. What Quaife are you using? I am told that none can take the torque of our engines.

Mount the catch tank high up under the clip or it will blow oil out which the airflow then deposits on the back of the car.

Mount high and then run pipe from top of catch tank to below chassis rails.

Mine runs fine with the breather in the standard position.

Mine is hung with the top face flush with the top chassis rail in order to give clearance for the exhaust system on top. No problems.

Just make sure that the pipework allows the oil to run back into the box - obvious but often overlooked. Our's is mounted on top of the chassis rail and not had an issue with anything blowing out of it.
I too would wonder what Quaife box you are running - I know for a fact none are rated at the torque levels that the SBC's or the LS7's produce.
I would also probably not worry about the stat - its just extra complication. Its a good idea to put an inline filter in the system that you check regularly - this is the best way to monitor the life of your box.

Thanks for all the advise everyone.
The gearbox has been modified but exactly how i am not sure as it was fitted to the car when i had it
My LS7 engine used to develop 700bhp until i had a milder cam fitted (now around 630) and have not had any problems yet.
Martin.
