Just appeared in the classifieds on the official Porsche site is an ex press demo car. Spec sounds hardcore with no aircon, no radio, colour to sample green (no pictures yet - I would guess at Viper), manual with short shift, sports exhaust, lightweight battery, ceramic brakes, leaather dash and nothing else.
Probably the purest Cayman R spec I have seen; I just couldn't live with it myself. No doubt there will be a massochist along in a minute to say different....

My thoughts exactly on the likely fanbase. It's at OPC Colchester, with regard to the colour, Peridot usually comes up as a standard colour, this is paint to sample.

Mike Hi Mike, Not as bad as I was led to believe. It was a whole day last Friday, plenty of red flags due to breakdowns or spins but driving standards were generally fine. The Melbourne loop ruins the flow of the circuit imho as it's just point and squirt. Some interesting cars including a 458 Corsa running 4k rpm max due to noise and not needing to brake on some of the tighter corners - the old hairpin amongst others. Some of the Caterfield Sevens were quick as were the Cossies in a straight line. One did a barrel roll which certainly ruined their day. How was Monday evening? Darren

Pictures just up and it is indeed the Peridot car that all the mags have used. Do you think it would still hold together for another few years after the abuse it may or may not have experienced over the first 10k miles?

Wasn't that lightweight battery a £1k+ option? Do those things even work in cold weather?

At the time she had around 2k miles and had a very annoying squeak/rattle from the back of the car, she did seem to.be leading a rather tough life at the hands of journos. I was very impressed with the ability of the R but came to the conclusion that maybe it was a little too good, ie possibly a little boring. I was not that impressed with the short shift box, brakes were absolutely fantastic and the PSE sounded fab though.

If it's got a nice fat warranty, it drives OK and the price is right...
But wouldn't fancy it out of warranty. You can be confident it's been mercilessly ragged from stone cold on a routine basis.

Howere based in all the horror stories about knackered carefully driven Cayman engines of late, the ragged from cold and ragged all the time might have been for the better. -

And I can't see that thrashing a cold engine is ever good. At the very least, you're risking cracked heads at low miles. That would be my main fear.

It would have to be seriously cheap or that I was only planning on keeping it within the official warranty period. I'd want to see a print out of the DME report too, well I would with any Porsche but particulalry with this one.

Well within warranty, very light weight, it is quite the bargain at under £40k. They are fetching much more than this at the moment.

Might work as a track car for someone, but not as an all rounder. £2-4k more buys one that has better spec for everyday use and is not an ex-press car. Peridot is also an opinion divider.

Already had 12k plus hard miles. I think you would have to be willing to take the risk of future unreliability to save £10k on a similarly specced car at Reading with 8k less miles and aircon.

no aircon would be the killer omission for me
every tried a summer track day @ spa without aircon ?!
time lost due to lack of concentration through heat exhaustion will be worse per lap than that of the power sapping by the compressor & extra weight....

The white one at Tonbridge has all the weight put back in with navigation, Bose, telephone, air conditioning and SPORTS EXHAUST. It's a manual and all that additional weight can saved by the driver going to the gym

However, the additional weight can usually be countered by the driver having some tuition rather than going to the gym - unless they are a driving God. Perhaps weightwatcher would be more applicable
