Factory spec window tints
Discussion
Hi there,
Have just treated myself to 2011 MY 5 series touring, which I think is fantastic by the way as my first BMW.
Only thing is it doesn't have window tints which I must admit I do like. So query is what is the standard BMW factory tint normally , as I would like to have the windows done but retain as original spec as possible ?
Thanks

An alternative maybe to get the factory fit sun blinds from BMW.

Obviously thats an E61 but you get the idea.
At least with these you can take them out if not particualrly sunny and when/if you sell the car you can flog em on ebay for a useful amount of money.

Is there any way of avoiding the rear screen looking crap with the heated element?
Have them done somewhere that knows what they're doing. Any tinter who's good at his job will be able to deal with the heated screen element and the dot matrix around the edge of the windows.
Thanks for all the input.
I have had a quote for 180 quid to do from B pillar back with 20% tint. But as stated I want to see proof of previous work on other vehicles first as rightly stated. Someone who does not know what they are doing can make the car look like a halfords special in a heartbeat!

Have them done at 20%, that's factory.
Are you sure about that? I've also got a 5 Series estate and from what I've read factory tints are nearer 35%.
I can't decide between 20 or 35% for my car. I have a beige interior so that will make the windows lighter anyway.
If you get yours done, please post photos and what strength you went with.
Thanks

The car is in the shade so it's difficult to judge but they look like 20% to me and are a bit darker than I am looking for.

Well I've just had my windows tinted and really pleased with results. Not too dark you can't see through and give the car a gangsta look. My car was done at 30% on the sides and 20% on the tailgate. Bear in mind that the photos were taken on an overcast day so look darker than they actually are. Also I have a beige interior that lightens the tints up. If you have a dark interior, you need to choose a lighter tint.
Good luck.
