Hi All, I find myself unable to remove dead battery. My understanding is that the insert underneath the plate slips, making it impossible to remove screw and retaining plate, therefore the battery ( the battery being trapped on side by the retaining plate, on the other by the wing. On the other sides, there is the coolant expansion vessel, and the wheel arch.
So far:
First, it did not seem to slip, I applied WD40 as it seemed stuck with rust.
Then, the "slipping" occured.
The battery is slightly loose as the scew was not tightened fully the last time.
I want to avoid having to go underneath the car to try from there. ( would have to get the car out of the narrow garage up a steep driveway, not ideal ...).
Any suggestion?
Many Thanks to All who can help. Tom.

Short of cutting the head off, try putting a large flat blade screwdriver or equivelant under the head of the bolt, or better still the clamp itself, and keep upwards pressure by twisting the handle whilst removing the bolt. That should pull the insert up into its hole hopefully restoring the grip.

Hello Andy, Success. you really made my day! Thank you so much! woohoo The cerbera will soon be going! I hope I meet you one day so I can buy you drink! beer

By the way, You may be able to help further: The original battery is a Banner:
Type: 570 89
UK No. 089
Box: D26
Ah 70
Amps: 480
Length: 272
Width: 175
Height: 220
but the local Banner distributor say they do not have it, all they propose is 225 mil, 3 mil taller which means it will not fit under the wing re new battery as it is very tight, I went around to several places where they sell other makes all 3 mil too tall...Do you know any other manufacturer who make the battery that both fits and delivers enough to start the AJP 4.5? confused
Thanks for any reply. Tom.
