Hello chaps.

My wife still has her original non photo id, paper driving licence.

She was asked for her driving licence as id recently, and was told her licence is no longer valid, and she must apply for a photcard one asap.

I can find no mention of this on the DVLA website, they can you can change, but it doesn't say you must.

Anyone know for sure ?

(I think she was told this by her bank, before anyone asks lol)

I've still got my paper one. It is perfectly valid for driving.
As ID it is pretty useless though as it does not have my photo!

As far as I know it's still valid & doesn't need to be exchanged, until she moves, gets points, the licence expires due to her turning (70?)

Who told her it wasn't valid?

I will learn to read posts fully one day, but its been that long.

Clearly, the bank don't know what they are talking about!

As long as the address is your current address and the expiry date hasn't gone past then it is still valid!

As mentioned above, it's still valid.

Mine was returned to me with points hand written on it earlier this year, so even that doesn't require a new licence.

Thanks everyone.

I'm sure the bank employee didn't mean to misslead my wife, it'll have been a genuine mistake.

Wifey is now aware, and will pass this info onto the lady next time she sees her.

The bank probably don't accept paper licences any longer as a form of id - hence why she was told it was not valid.

i.e. no longer valid as proof of id for the bank and not no longer valid a licence to to drive...

This.
I don't see how a paper licence without a photo is proof of ID.

Still accepted as a form of ID for legal purposes, as are utility bills etc.

I have a paper licence. I gave up using it for ID years ago - if I know I'm going to need ID I take my passport...

Not sure about if moving but It's if she gets points they write them on and send it back.

Neither did the copper that stopped me; he said I'd get forms through the post to apply for a new style licence rather than the old one returned.

LOL, strangely enough, banks don't accept passports (or that's my experience), because, it doesn't have your address on it !

How do I know the person producing it is the licence holder? Unless I know that, it is worthless.
