Hi
With a bit of luck I might be ready to lift my engine into the car in the next month or 2.
A friend has lent me a crane, but I have no ropes, chains or lifting hooks/eyes.
The engine is from American Speed.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Mark

Thanks. Where did you lift the engine from - did you use eyes or just straps around some of the block?
I am worried about snapping bits off!

Just get one of these lifting bars. You just adjust the crank as required to balance the motor, and can also adjust it to tilt it as it goes into the engine compartment.

As seen in the last picture there are some well placed bolt holes in the end of each cylinder head. Stick a bolt in the holes of your choice and lift using chains or nylon strops. Whilst the engine balance bar is usefull it has limited benefit on an Ultima as the engine is lifted in level unlike other engine installs where you need to change the angle as the engine goes in. Strops are better than chains as they are less likely to do damage. They are also easier to adjust the position of the hook so the lift is level.

Seat belt straps from scrap cars take incredible loads.
